I got a good deal on these wheels yesterday. I was told they were 17x7 and 17x8 which would have fit my car. I knew they looked wider but it was such a good deal I didn't want to pass them up.
They are Budnik Trilogy III 17x8 (245/45/17) front and 17x9.5 (275/45/17) rears (5x4.75 bolt pattern). They are flush with the outside of my rear fenders...I want to lower the car still...

SO my questions are:

Is it possible to get these to fit under my Car?

What are the options available out there?

If its not going to work...then...Anyone want to buy a nice set of Budnik's?

Well judging by the lack of response, there is nothing I can do.
The wheels are now for sale.

If you role the lips in, rework the inner fender wells will they fit? It is also possible to work the body out to a certain extent with out doing to much work.

I'm guessing there isn't a lot of pad to mill down.

I know you said you wanted to lower it, but to be honest, I think it has a pretty sweet stance just the way it is!

wide body, flare them quarters...or just find a set that fits.

Yeah, they are too wide for the back. Fronts look good.. Not much you can do with the back wheels though....Bummer huh... JR

Yeah, I am making a simple thing complicated...I'll just move on and get a set that fits.

corvairs are LOADS of fun to fit wheels on, arent they?

You can get em to fit by using a brake lathe to mill some off of the thickness of the hub of the wheel. That, and you can roll those fender lips. (I did) Looks like a narrower tire would help too.

There is no "in and out" adjustment back there without extensive mods, cutting and welding and fabbing.

There's always weldcraft wheel (http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/) You could have them narrowed for a few hundred per wheel.

First check the amount of pad on the wheels. You may be able to have the pad milled down enough to pull them in that is as long as you have room on inside for the tire to come in.
If that option will not work then you can have the wheels rehooped to 8" or what ever you need. This is easy to do and I assume Budnik will do it if not I would be glad to do it for you. Don't go the way of narrowing by cutting the hoop. It makes a structural week point and is no good unless the center is welded directly on top of it.

Note: your corvair has struts that run from the center section out to the trailing arms that look basically like 1/2" all thread. Reverse that rod! spin it around and put the bolt head end toward the tire. This will buy you some clearance on the inside.

Then there is always this option. We boxed the trailing arm and cut a large piece out to clear fat tires.

cool, I was wondering if that strut was reversible. Thanks Tony!
