Dead cylinder. No compression. =(
And it was running so well before. There's oil and debris in the cylinder that I can see through the spark plug hole.
CRAP!
Time to pull her apart *again*.
Seems like all I ever do is patch her up.
I need to find me a 400 dollar LS motor, and a cheap Porsche trans-axle and just get it over with.
Pics of the carnage to ensue. I need a break tonight.

I always try to tell myself that it's the struggle that makes the ultimate success worthwhile.
Sometimes I believe myself and other times I say "BS."
Sorry to hear about this setback. You'll get after it and start moving forward again once this (and the other 12 projects falling in the "While I'm at it . . . " category) is behind you.

indeed. It's just a chance to make a better car out of it. I'd like the time spent fixing the car to the time spent driving the car ratio to change a little though. LOL.

Thanks True. Im looking at 915 ones. 5 speed. like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-915-5-Speed-Transmission-Transaxle-Rare-238_W0QQitemZ270376149103QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef3aca06f&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A1171|240%3A1318) Cause I know they make an adapter to an LS engine for it. 930s work well too. I've seen them for as little as 1000 bucks before, but now that I need one, none are found. LOL.
There was a guy on craigslist for at least a year in this area with an LS1 with LS2 heads and intake, disassembled for 800 bucks. Now that I need it? Sold. Figures. Im going to check around and see whats out there.
Funny thing is, my wife was the last one to really drive my car hard. She's really beating herself up for it too. She was having fun getting second gear in it. It ran fine when she parked it, and she was really looking forward to driving it again. And then It broke.

Use this! Like the next to last scene in "Saving Private Ryan" her hurting your car will be gold for years if you use it well.

I know all about it I just dropped a 400 small block in my truck so 4 days later I could tear it back apart to replace a trashed head gasket, But hey like I always if it was perfect it would'nt be any fun... and I would have to charge extra!
Go luck with the re-build.

Sucks to hear, but it can only come out better than before. I've got about 3 years into my car and finally hit 3000 miles after a 1500 mile trip to Chevellabration.

My engine is sitting on the stand as we speak too. Had no compression on #6, from the Dragstrip no less!
Sucks man! Upgrade!! LOL

Check into the Audi 5000 transaxle. It's considerably cheaper than the 915. Here is a comparision between the two.

I feel your pain as well. 3rd gear is giving me problems in my Richmond 5 spd. Luckily I only need 1st & 2nd for autox Sunday.

The Audi would work if I wanted the engine in the back seat like a lambo. But I want it in the original rear location like a corvair. It's been done before. And fits cleanly and works very very well.
If I can scrape up to dough, That's the angle I'd like to go.

What about a northstar engine and trans would that be an option ?

Its been done. It puts the engine too far forward. and alters the track width a bunch as well.

As for me, I like the idea of a boosted EcoTec in that car. Has that ever been done?

Forget if that has been done, that would be a great idea anyway! One of the mags just did a build on an LSJ EcoTec and got 372 hp. Your car with anything north of 300 hp would be silly fun!:6gears:

You can always hookup a N* to a Porsche trans axle...

I've considered it. But as far as i know, NO ONE makes a stand alone controller for one yet. At least that's what everyone was telling the chevette guy. That, and the lack of an adapter.
