After 25 years, 3 months, and 27 days, I took off my uniform and hung it up for the last time yesterday. It was both a happy and sad day for me at the same time.

I'm going to kick back and relax for a month or three and then look to start a second career.

On my first day off (today) I replaced the oil pan gasket on my Buick - laying on my back on the garage floor. Working was easier than that!

Thanks for your service. I'm also changing carrers after 25 years and moved 1500 miles from where I lived for 25 years. It's taking some getting used to.

Moving isn't new for me - 9 assignments (five in the states and four In Europe) in the last 25 years. I am looking forward to settling down for a few years.

Thanks for everybody's comments.

I dunno what they say in the Chair Force, but in the Sea Services (Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy) we offer the following:

Fair Winds and Following Seas My Friend.

What are you thinking of for career #2?

Congrats, thanks for your service. I hit 21 in the AF next month. I have had fun but it is starting to wear off. I am comtemplating my next career. What did you do (AFSC)? I will to be out there next month for a few days for a system refresher class, maybe we can get together for a beer or something.

Thanks.

Career #2? I am looking at getting into civil service. My specialty is Occupational Safety and Health, and there are some good opportunities across the government for me.

Thanks!

You don't even want to get me going on the "perfect" car to keep me busy....

Between yesterday and today, I've replaced the oil pan gasket, put a new turbo drain line in (always fun), and put one of the PTE turbo saver oil filter relocation kits on. I wonder sometime if I just shouldn't get me something very low-tech with a simple small block chevy in it.

If my new turbo arrives tonight, I will be slapping that on tomorrow.

LOL Me either! I'll hit 24 years active duty this fall and still don't have any idea other than I hope to slide into a civil service position and work towards that second pension for another 20 years.

Congrats Rob!!!!

Congratulations on 25 & your retirement.
I got out of the AF after 10, would be 30 next year had I stayed in, no regrets.

If you can take your time deciding what to do next I would wait till the economy picks up a little. For civil service/government jobs check out USAjobs.com, but you probably already know that.
