The kit was delivered today so of course I had to dive right in and install it!

The install went very smoothly and the instructions were VERY thurough. This rack weighs way less than the stock gear and gives a lot more clearance for headers. And it actually doesn't hang below the frame's main x-member...very good and tight packaging!! The steering arms bolted right up and clear my 17x8 wheels w/ 5" b.s. no problem. The wheels at full lock come closer to the frame now...therefore allowing for tighter turns!! I also bought the steering shaft kit, but have to wait to get an Ididit column before I install that. It cleared a standard oil pan that came with my crate motor...I'll be ordering a new road race pan soon though. You will see there is plenty of ground clearance and my car is lowered a good 2.5-3"!!

I'm having trouble uploading pics at the moment...but you can see all the before and after shots at my web page here (http://tony.jbworks.com/pictures.asp?src=C:%5CCamaro%5CAnthonys%20Camaro&Num=281)

Hope this helps!!! :)

Thanks for the pics.
The tighter steering radius will be sweet. I'm concerned about clearing the fender with the 245-45-17s I have on the front.
Have you set up the steering shaft yet, I'm wondering if it will clear on my BBC with Supercomps, or if I will have to run the shorties.

Thanks for posting up pictures! Makes me really glad that I bought one of these! Now the only problem is having to know that it's back at my house just sitting and waiting for me to install it. :pat:

Where did you get the kit at? And how much?

Nice work, and good photography. Thanks!

Does the stud/steering arm arrangement lend itself to shims to "tune" for bump steer?

How about checking it for bumpsteer????? :)

I just checked the a-arm height and noticed the ride height was way too low (time to readjust the coilovers)...I installed a trans x-member yeasterday and I guess the dolly I had holding up the tailshaft when I origionally adjusting the front suspension did't allow it to fully compress...so I just jacked it up to the proper height and took another pic and added it to my page, it shows the tie rods level to the ground...much better than before!!

Justin, there is a group buy going on right now for a VERY big savings!! Here's a link to the GP thread. (https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4887)

Flyboy, this one of those parts that is designed well and was fun to install...yep you'll be even more glad you bought it once you get back home and install it!! :)

Bob, huge thanks to you, and as always I'm very happy to post pics!!

EFI69Cam, I would have to install the front clip to check for tire/fender clearance, but I wouldn't think it would be an issue...yes it now has a tighter turn radious but the tires don't turn too much more...maybe I can hang a fender and check soon...I also have a 245/45/17 tire. They say in the instructions that this kit will work with big blocks with the addition of one more u-joint (total of 3) and you are limited to specific shaped headers, they used Patriot H8012.

paul, the upper a-arms are 9.75" from the outside of the x-shaft to the center of the ball joint...they are DSE's.

jp, thanks!! It's not quite as custom as II Much's r&p (or article!!) but I'm quite proud to have it!! :) Unisteer told me that if I have any bump steer issues, due to my ride height being lowered more than 2", to use Baer Trackers...but they didn't think I would have any issues.

David, it will be quite some time before this thing hits the pavement...but I assure you PIR will be one of the first stops!!!

paul, forgive me I'm a little tired from staying up REAL late (notice thread started at 3am  )...what are you needing? The width of the rack? Length of the tie rods? Over all width? I'm more than willing to help...especially since I know you have a custom install...just need more info.... :)

paul, the total width ball joint to ball joint is 52", course I don't have it alligned yet...but that's close. And of course the rod ends are adjustable I would say an inch or so from there both directions. The Rack measures 16" rubber boot-boot (inside edges) That's the best I can do without taking the boots off...and I'm not willing to go that far. You could always contact Unisteer for more info if that's not enough...hope that helps!!

How close is the tie rod to the rim, I'm wondering if it would fit a 16x8 with 4.5 bs?

Thanks for the advise. Dave told me about the Patriot headers, they look just like the Hedmans I have on the car now. Those should work, I have a set of hooker supercomps I'm worried about. I might have to modify the headers to fit.

James, the tie rod end is the closest thing between it and the steering arm and it measures 1" at the tightest point, and the front of the rod end is 1" in past the back lip of the wheel (17x8 w/ 5" bs) ...so in your situation you would clear the wheel by a half inch and the rod end would be in past the lip .5"...I say it will fit no prob!!

Actually this was without brake rotors, so actually the rod end would only be inside the plane of the wheel by .25" with your wheels.

If you want to test fit your wheel just to be sure, take a short road trip down and see me...ah come on it's not that far!! :icon996:

Anthony,
How much lower is the outer tie rod end compared to a stock steering arm?

Just looking at his pictures, it looks to me like the outer t/r is higher?
Given the position of the rack, tucked up behind the crossmember. it makes sense to me that the outer t/r would be higher.

David, sorry I was out of town a couple of days.

The outer tie rod end is raised approximatly 1/2" and forward 3/4" from the stock location.
