Need Some Computer Help...

I have my laptop hooked up to a second monitor on my desk. When I unplug the monitor connected to my laptop, the screen resets and is sideways. Normally I will mess with my friends and change the way their screen faces using alt+ctrl and the direction. For some reason in this case, that does not do anything. When I plug the monitor back in the screen is upright and fine. But even then using alt + ctrl and the direction does not change anything. I have used the properties window and chosen not to extend my desktop to the new monitor and then restarted my computer without the monitor attached but it still starts sideways. It does not show up sideways in safe mode, only in normal. I run Vista by the way and have completed all recent updates.

Anybody know what I can do?

Depending on the video card you have, this may or may not help you. I have an nVidia card...

In Vista right click on the desktop, go to personalize, click the display settings link, click advanced settings button, click GeForce tab, click "start the NVIDIA control panel", on left side you will see under the "display" menu tree: "rotate display", click that and then adjust as needed.

If you have an ATI video card, you should have a similar control panel setting, just hidden somewhere else.
