With the current rough economy, there seems to be a lot of good "bargains" out there at the moment. A lot of people are unloading their toys, projects, etc.

I have been looking for a "deal" for my next project to put away for when I get my '69 Bird done. I really wanted to do a 2nd Gen have been on the hunt for a '70-73 Camaro. After a lot of web hunting and driving to look at junk, I recently bought a '73 (nothing special 350 car) with 56K original miles and all of the original body panels with absolutely zero rust. It's a stripped roller (with all body panels and suspension) so everything is exposed. The car has been garaged since 1982 and I got it for $1,500. It was exactly what I was looking for as I want to choose the drive line, interior, and paint anyway, but did not want to get into heavy body work. I thought it was a good find.

What's everyone else been finding out there? Post up your good deals!

Phil

There are some deals out there but for the most part people are asking just as stupid $ now as they were two years ago.

I recently bartered for a complete Pontiac 350- it "cost" me a 2nd gen T/A three piece rear spoiler and a decklid. Pretty good deal, I think.

I honestly havent seen too many outstanding deals here lately, it seems like there are better deals out there when people are buying / selling / changing up thier cars. For example, I cannot tell you how many parts on my car came from other people who got 1/2 way through a project and decided to go another direction and I got new parts at great prices.

Now that people have slowed down I dont see nearly as many of those kinds of deals.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you guys keep looking for 1st gen Camaros and such, of course the prices are little different.

If you broaden your spectrum a bit, you find all sorts of fun stuff. Now would be a great time to score a deal on a fox body (cheap track car/daily driver) or Miata. Jeep Cherokees and other off-roaders have hit new lows in pricing and offer great capability and practicality.

Modern performance cars like Corvettes sell for ridiculous prices compared to what they were new just a couple of years ago. C6 Z06 for 50k? Yes please! Normal C6's are even less and then C5's go even lower.

C4 'vettes are unloved right now but really do deliver solid performance. They're just overshadowed by their LS powered offspring. I'm going to go through the local craigslist postings now and see what I find.

I should also mention that while collectable muscle car prices might not have dropped like some might have hoped, they're only going to shoot up even further when the economy recovers. It'll make these prices seem like a good deal. And remember, some of those "cheap" back in the day prices in the 70's and 80's were still quite a chunk of change back then.

Another thought . . . the truck market is taking a beating right now. It could be a good time to score a tow vehicle or parts hauler.

'89 fox body with a 5.0 and a stick - 2700

1964.5 Mustang . . . no pics. These sort of ads can be great in that most potential buyers are turned off by the lack of pictures and never call or offer. That's actually the scenario that allowed me to buy my daily driver in March '08.

1987 Porsche 944 - 2800 . . . apparently the owner grew impatient with basic repairs. These make great lightweight platforms. I say go for it. LS swap!

1988 Jeep Comanche - because these little trucks are awesome . . . this one has me contemplating how to park a 4th car. No 4wd in this one though.

1970 Pontiac Trans Am - 3600, not bad for an early second gen TA that's not rotted to the core

1987 Pontiac Trans Am - 900: sort of a mechanic's special.

1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS - 1900: seemingly clean 3rd gen with the all too common slushbox

2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 8000: looks clean and doesn't have high mileage
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1203273803.html

1969 Chevrolet Camaro roller - 7500: I remember 2003 when 1st gens were still attainable . . .

1976 BMW 2002 - 2100: another no pic mystery car
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1210216136.html

1995 BMW 325i - 3200: BMW E36's can be had at very reasonable prices although the same isn't really true when it comes to replacement parts
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1210054843.html

1987 BMW 325 - 1850: since it doesn't say, it probably has a slushbox. nevertheless, E30's are a dime a dozen in SoCal and replacement parts are plentiful at the local salvage yards

2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 - 32k: seriously, who buys a new Mustang or 370Z when these can be had for 32k???
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1211798603.html

1990 Chevrolet Corvette - 4200: sort of the average 4k C4 'vette (w/ autolameness)
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1210309548.html

1989 Chevrolet Corvette - 5900: high mileage and another auto but very clean
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1209788447.html

2007 Ford Mustang GT - 16500: S197 prices really took a dive with the recession. I really want to get one of these cars in the next 5 years.
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1211471773.html

1991 Mazda Miata - 2200: ok, so Miatas have always been cheap and deals are all over the place. If only the Solstice and Sky had come out a decade earlier.

That was just from a quick search on my local craigslist. The LA craigslist always offers better deals but also comes with a higher level of sketchiness. Anyway, keep an eye out for good deals. :)

I have seen some decent deals for "starter" cars, or what I would buy to build something with. The local trader mag has had some good ones lately but since I allready have more cars than parking spaces, I am trying to not bring home another stray!
