Hello all:
I just signed up, and I wanted to introduce myself. I am the proud owner of a 69 GTO. I have owned this car for 6 years, and I am in the process of re-doing it for the second time in four years. The first time I re-did it, it was my daily driver. I replaced the frame (because it was cracked) by myself in the garage back in 2003. At the time I rebuilt the Motor to RA III specs, TH400 Trans, All new polyurethane bushings, rubber body mount bushings, new stock springs, basically a one man restoration. I drove it everyday for three years. Back in 2007 I sold my pride and joy, a 77 Pontiac Can Am. I owned this car for 6 years, and it was unmolested until 2005, when I pulled the numbers matching 400 and set it aside in the garage. I stroked a 400 into a 462, and that thing would embarrass many newer, and older muscle cars. When I sold the Can Am, I missed the power of the 462 that I built for it, and my GTO seemed SLOWWWWWW. I ended up buying a more fuel efficient daily driver, and I commenced to tearing the GTO down for a redo. I removed the engine and used the block to build a new 462 using the same recipe as I did for the Can Am 462, with the exception of a slightly bigger cam, headers, and a full roller valve train. I removed all of the stock suspension, and replaced it with pieces from Global West. I installed lowering springs, Koni shocks, I replaced the front 1- 5/16 front sway bar with a 1-1/8. All of the control arms are tubular G-Force pieces with Del-alum bushings. I had the stock steering box rebuilt to a 12:1 ratio, as well as had the PS Pump rebuilt. I am looking at adding larger front disc brakes, and converting the rears to disc as well. At this point, I am about to fire up the 462 for the first time. I picked up a nice set of Indian Adventures 1 3/4 headers, and am running a 2.5" Pypes X-Pipe system, with Race Pro mufflers.
