I just took my brand new TrueTrac differential out for its maiden voyage. All seems well: no leaks, and the Locker banging is gone.

But: on left-hand U-turns, I hear a squeak/squeal coming from the differential. Is that normal? Should I be concerned?

I've never heard mine squeak or squeal in over 2000 street miles. Put a few more miles on it and see if it goes away.

No squeek here either. Did you call the manufacturer JP?

Did you call the manufacturer JP?

I exchanged email with Moser (Rocky Van Note) this morning. They recommend 80W90 mineral-based oil (I was using Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic) to break the new differential in. I'll switch over to that and see if that makes a difference.

Same here...Currie say not to use anything but plain old 80-90w gear oil. Too slick of oil will not allow the diff to work properly.

I can actually start feeling my rear tires lightly skip in a very tight radius.

Same with Moser plain 80w90 gear lube.

I changed my fluid. It made no difference. At all.

I talked to Moser, and they said the noise wasn't unusual, and that it might go away as the unit breaks in. But even if the noise doesn't mitigate, it wasn't an indication of a problem.

So I'll just drive it like this, and change it back to synthetic fluid when I get a couple thousand miles on it.
