Bought a 2010 Camaro SS yesterday

You never know what you might come across while surfing the net. I've had a cyber gray 2010 SS on order since November, which is supposedly in assembly right now. Here I was surfing Camaro5, and Joe M. from Classic Chevrolet here in the Houston area makes a post (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24788), saying he has a cyber gray SS in stock. It was an early pre-order, but the buyer backed out. This dealership was only 10 minutes away from me, and the car was nearly identical to what I ordered. I ordered mine with silver stripes and the dark RS wheels. This one had black stripes and polished wheels, the rest was the same. 2SS/RS, manual 6-spd, black leather, no sunroof. Perfect! So, I hopped in the car within minutes of seeing the post, and went to meet Joe and see the car. Top notch service, everyone at Classic was very friendly. I paid MSRP for the car, which was $36K and some change. I slapped down my trusty GM card and knocked another $1K off the price tag. The Camaro was fresh off the transport truck, still wrapped in the plastic and paint protection sheets. I brought my 9-yr old son with me to experience the thrill of buying a new car. He was very excited to see a "Bumblebee", even if it wasn't yellow. lol

Had a nice 60 mile commute back home in the evening. These cars get a lot of attention! Just about every car that we came across gave the thumbs up or waved. A few even snapped pics while they drove, albeit dangerous to do so. What a fun evening, and a great Friday this turned out to be. Here I was, expecting to wait at least another month, worrying about GM going bankrupt. Then this car comes out of nowhere, even though I've been searching for the last 2 months to find one sooner.

Congrats, great looking car! I saw my first one in traffic yesterday and it was a balck, non-SS. I pointed and said "New Camaro" and my wife said she thought it looked good and she wished she had a better look. I love that woman.

Patrick, I'll probably put a TVS Magnacharger on it, mild cam, headers with cats. Should push ~600 rwhp and remain drivable. This heavy tank (3,850 lbs empty) needs the low end torque boost.

Tony, the car is exactly what I expected. I bought an '09 G8 GT about 2 months ago, and they are on the same chassis. It drives a lot like the G8, but with less body roll and you can feel that the car is more nimble.

Darrin, the blind spots over your left shoulder are horrible. You can't see anything out of those big C-pillars. Even the clunky internal B-pillar on the driver's side blocks the use of the quarter window. You really have to rely on the mirrors, which I do anyways from driving my dually truck. I don't mind the blind spots, the Viper is just as bad. Form over function when it comes to styling some of the coolest cars on the road.

Jody, I'd recommend a 1-way plane ticket or a car transporter. No sense in buying local from crook dealerships. Hundreds of dealers sell at MSRP.

Absolutely stunning... I saw them up close and personal at SEMA and fell in love with them. Unfortunately I never buy a new car the first year... Just because the dealers over inflate the price. So I will wait another year and hopefully they will come out with a convertible. If they do that I will buy one in a CHEVY HEARTBEAT!!

Mark (toofun) the convertible will be out early next year. I am a sucker for first year models. Had I not purchased one of the first 1998 LS1 f-bodies, LS1Tech may not exist today ;)

The only "in stock" Camaros you will find are people who backed out on pre-ordered cars, or those owned by crooked dealerships trying to get more than MSRP for them. There were 14,000 pre-orders, and probably less than half of those have been built so far. Figure 5 months from now and dealers might begin to get inventory cars.

A buddy of mine picked up my order and will get that car. I didn't feel right about leaving the salesguy hanging, he was great to work with on my Z06 purchase and the Camaro order. So, I located two potential buyers for him before canceling.

I'm working on getting wheels, exhaust, suspension, blower now :)

I would, but the CTS rolls on 27" tall tires and the Camaro comes with 28.6" tall tires. The fender gaps would be HUGE with those Caddy wheels on it. The Camaro basically uses sport SUV tires, no kidding.

Lovin' the new 'maro. The more I look at it the more of the late 60's camaro that I start to see in it. I like the little shark gills in front of the rear wheels. I dig the color. Get some springs and wheels on it now. :)
