hi guys, in advance im sorry if i ask any noobish questions its my first time on here. anyway i have a 90 honda accord lx that i just replaced the alternator on and a few min after i started it up it started smoking and from looking around on the web i think its a belt loose (either the alternator or power steering, the power steering pump had to be removed for acess to the alternator). am i right? if so how tight/loose do those two belts need to be? or is it some kinda grease inside the new(rebuilt) unit? please help me

I don't have the specs for a Honda or any experience with their belts. Being a 90 I'd assume that it's a serpentine belt, which I'd think would mean there's a tensioner that takes up the appropriate amount of slack.

If the smoke was only for a little while, it could be some grease in the unit or fluid/grease that got on the exhaust, or something like that; if the smoke persists then popping the hood may give a better indication on where it's coming from.

Yeah, I'm being vague because I don't have any specifics to go off of here.
