Seen this car last year and still it sits in the same spot a old first gen camaro, maybe if its still there next year (which i'm sure it will be) I'll see if I can buy it

Nice find. Maybe you should approach the owner now, before the car deteriorates any farther.

The other car is a 74-75ish Gran Torino 'Elite'. My dad had a gold one when i was a kid. A 'poor mans' Lincoln

ooo certainly a diamond in the rough.

Start saving your lunch money... get that sucker! :)

Hmm a '68 SS with a 327? Kind of an odd combination don't ya think... don't think I've ever seen that setup. But, 327's kick ass... so no complaints.

I doubt it is an SS. They had 350's or 396's with either a cowl or SS hood. 12 bolt and disc brakes on the front.

No telling what has been done to it though. Did you pop the hood at the risk of being eaten alive or stung. LOL

"he's got an awful purdy mouth don't he?" If you hear banjos playing, run for your life.

I am from Arkansas so I know about these things.

Probably could be had for a song.

...with either a cowl or SS hood...

Didn't the cowl hood come into play for the '69 model year? I'm not sure I've ever seen a '68 that left the factory with one.

I'm betting floor boards, rockers, and lower quarters are toast
I'd also plan on at least a trunk pan, inner/outer wheel houses and, thanks to the vinyl top, a roof skin. More than likely it'll need to be taken down to a very bare skeleton and brought back.

I watched a 65 Impala die a slow death because of those very same words.

An old widow drop it off at the junkyard when her husband passed. Nice decent car with little rot with it arrived. White with blue interior and 327 with 2.02 double hump heads. I asked 3 time over the years and the yard guys kept saying they were gonna make a race car out of it. That was back in 1997 and to my knowledge it's still there, now alot more deteiorated, not winning any races.

Not surpirisingly it's not too far from where that camaro is. The TN mountains are a treasure trove of hidden jems and junkyards burried all through out the Appala"ch"ians.

1. It doesn't pollute (at the moment)

2. It's Bio-Degrading as we speak.

and

3. It's providing a habitat for a whole ecological system.

removing that car would be a crime against nature.

If I was you I would go and tell him you've been watching that Chevelle sit there since you were 6 years old and you would love to buy it and restore it. You never know, certain things catch peoples attention. You wouldn't be another random person asking if its for sale. Pull on the heart strings a little and see what happens. Especially if you could give him some history of it and how you remember it looking through the years.

I always believe that most people won't sell their cars for fear of it getting destroyed by someone else. Granted leaving it out to rot doesn't help the car either but at least they are keeping it out of the hands of someone they think will destroy it. Does that make sense.....

Yeah, I've never understood the theory behind why people won't sell. 'though, we really don't know, I'm sure there are some that either a family member could have died and that was their car and just can't bear to part with it, maybe it was a car that the people are hoping to have the money to fix it up someday, and yes, the thought of their beloved '68 camaro being butchered up for a demolition derby probably isn't too keen either. Who knows?

Hey CodeRed, that Camaros.net really is a great place to go for general Camaro forums. It's pretty big. There's a number of folks here that are on there also.

To reference numbers, you might want to print off a page or two at www.camaros.org "Camaro Research Group" They site is geared towards the number crunching research that you asked about for the body tag and VIN.

Not sure where in Tennessee it is, but you mentioned that you didn't have the means to get it back to Ohio at the moment... if you want to get it, and then pick it up at RTTH this year, or some other time in the near future... I might could help with a place to store it till then. Bill Howell might do the same thing (and truth be told... he's got more room than me).

im getting closer

car has a bit more over growth lol

a neighbor down the road gave me the name of the guy who owns the property and said he has cameras setup around there

I did see a truck parked there but no answer at the door

So i left a note on the windshield of his truck

I checked the car out more

Car does have a rearend and drivetrain but no valve covers or intake but not worried about those

so mainly I would just need wheels

anyone know if 96 Camaro wheels will bolt up?

going to try to find a phone number since I got a address and name now

UPDATE!!!!!

im getting closer

car has a bit more over growth lol

a neighbor down the road gave me the name of the guy who owns the property and said he has cameras setup around there

I did see a truck parked there but no answer at the door

So i left a note on the windshield of his truck

I checked the car out more

Car does have a rearend and drivetrain but no valve covers or intake but not worried about those

so mainly I would just need wheels

anyone know if 96 Camaro wheels will bolt up?

going to try to find a phone number since I got a address and name now

sad news guys

well the guy got my note and contacted my grandmother and said he isnt interested in selling the car at this time as he may restore it (which means it will continue to sit there) but my grandma did tell him if he does sell to give her a call

so I guess i'm going to try for this 79 TA

Call him back just to thank him for the message. Talk to him about the car and what you would do to it. Restore it to pristine condition, etc. Talk about the car and not about buying it just to show you are interested. Then talk about another one you found and the own didn't want to sell it either. But by the time you got back around, a tree fell on it and destroyed it. Appeal to his desire to restore the car. Most people like that don't have the means, but if you could paint a picture of the finished product with a promise to bring it by when it's done, he might be willing to part with it.

Sounds like he'll die with it and it'll rust away. I know it's mean, but sometimes I kinda wish someone would make the car "disappear".

That's actually a great idea.

Ugh. I don't understand people like that. You here stories like this way too frequently. It pains me to see a muscle car sitting like that.

Personally, if you really want the Camaro, I would stay on him. You haven't even spoken directly with him yet. Persistence and patience usually wins in this situation. I would try to actually meet with him to have a discussion face to face. And bring cash. As we all know, money talks.

Good luck with both of them. Sometimes the hunt is as fun as the kill.

I can't tell you how many times I've run across a car sitting like that and before I contact the owner I'll usually tell a wife/buddy "hey, wanna bet on what his response will be?"

Almost every single time it's "Nah, I'm gonna restore it one day" and I can drive by there a year or two later and it's still sitting.

I was working in an area a couple of years ago. This guy had a very clean original 67 Camaro in his yard, after driving by it for months I saw him in the yard and asked if he wanted to sell it...got the normal response. Fast forward a few years and I was in the area again, noticed the car was gone and he was in the yard again. Stopped and asked him what happened to the Camaro. He told me that I got him to thinking about selling it (real slow apparently) and he had just sold it about a month earlier for $500!!!

I wanted to choke him on the spot.

My point is this...you've put the bug in his ear, now stop by and visit about once a month...ask if he needs some help clearing the growth from around the car (wear snake boots), keep showing interest and I'll bet you will own it.

Even if you don't buy it someone here sure would...don't let it rot!

After last week's storm, I'm sure it's more like Stalingrad Dec 1942 than the Amazon. But still worth it.

At the rate the bushes are growing around it, it'll be invisable from view.

I once went to look at "an old Camaro" a guy had in the backyard. Turned out to be a heavily wooded area. He said he hadn't been back there in years. We were both shocked at what we found. Seems a tree about a foot in diameter had grown through the floorboards and out the windshield area. Not one usable piece was left on it except the stainless trim around where the vinyl top used to be. He gave me that trim.
