I work a lot of OT, always taking on call shifts. Fitting name since all that money goes to this.

Engine:
Dart 9.5 sportsman 4.125 stroked to a 438. CHI 225 heads and intake.
AJE k-member/coilovers with Koni adjustables.
TCP G-link, double adjustable coilovers.
Promotion upgraded TKO600

Many more pics can be found on my site: http://www.threeblade.com

I started this in Feb of this year, over 200 hours into it so far. 99% done by me.

That's cool! I dig the wheels. What size and brand/model? Look sort of like the 03/04 Cobra with 10.5" aftermarket wides...?

Sorry, just saw your website. Answered most of my questions. :)

Yep.

Wheel Replicas....they are super cheap.

17x9 17x10.5 03 cobra deep dish.

I bought them initially as something to hold me over until I invest in higher quality. But, I freakin love the look of these wheels and don't plan on upgrading now.

True true, but with the power I plan on making, I'm not sure what gear would be long lived. :)

What is your 427 setup? What kind of power?

I have a AGR cobra rack coming in a couple weeks, once I get that and get the steering together I'll be putting down some lizardskin followed by wiring.

Then the driveline can start going in. Hopefully in a couple months I can have it on the road. Thanks for all the compliments guys. :)

very nice car and combo

i built the same 438 with ron sharp ported afr 225's. i feel like the heads held the car back but i did run a 9.60 on pump gas and way to fast on the bottle and race gas.

that was one fun car. 91 coupe that ran 8's and was street legal and taged!!

Yeah, I know the 438 might be a little big for 225s but I'll get the power I want out of it. CHI's do great out of the box, I'm still up in the air to do work on them.

You no longer have the 91? Any pics?

Awesome. I found your thread. I'm jealous of the smoothed firewall. Any plans on running a heater? I plan on driving my car a lot, heater is a must! even in San Diego...ha!

FYI, I don't know what size tire you plan to run in back but my g-link is bolted up to my stock 9in housing with stock length axles. The rear wheel has a +20mm offset and the nitto nt05 315/35's fit perfect. No cutting, no spacers. Rolled fender and and about 2 mins of a hammer in a couple spots.

The front suspension is a full coil over strut that is adjustable, so you can put it at just about any height you want to.

AJE hasn't been that great to deal with. I hope you have a better experience. Are you looking to cut your shock towers back? The instructions AJE has on thier site http://ajeracing.com/64-70installation.htm are instructions written by Classic Performance & Repair. They mocked these instructions up for AJE not knowing they were simply gonna copy and paste them on their site. They are correct, just not that pretty so to say.

This is the process I went through to mount the CC plates on top. It was a lot of work, main reason was it looked cool. As you know, the adjustable coil overs give you plenty of height adjustment as is.

Started with the shock tower as is....
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Cleaned up ready to fill all the holes...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Filling the holes...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I don't have a picture of the next step. Once you have everything filled and flat/smooth, I cut a hole the diameter of the CC. You also need to drill the holes for the bolts. This allowed the mount plate of the CC to rest on the shock tower.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I bolted it up from underneath, yet this wasn't enough support for my liking. Instead of having the big flange spreading the pressure like the picture below, your pressure points have been minimized to the 3 bolts and their head surfaces. (pressure is being applied up from the coilover)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

So I wanted to have a flange under, with a longer bolt. Flange>shock tower>top cc flange.

Now I don't have a picture of the underside, I can get one. But here is what I did. I cannibalized the old CC plates. I took the mounting bracket and opened it up to the diameter of the CC and used it for the underside. You can use anything really, but since I wasn't planning on returning the old CC plates, I figured it was a good piece to start with since it had the correct bolt pattern, etc. Just needed some slight modification. Also, both CC plates are from AJE. The aluminum one being a much better piece.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

clevorguy
09-14-2009, 08:39 AM
Also, black steel CC bolt holes were not threaded since you have a nut the goes on top. The aluminum bolt holes are threaded.

Chappy
09-17-2009, 05:42 PM
So the aluminum CC plates are supplied by AJE? Is this something that was extra cost or special parts? I've had my kit for almost 8 months now, and when it was supplied to me I didn't get adjustable lower a-arms or the aluminum CC plates. I have a standard fixed LCA and the black steel CC plates. Just looking to see if these are standard parts now... if they are I'll try to get in contact with AJE to see if I can get them instead of the ones I have.

I haven't really had much of a chance to work on my car here lately (recently moved, etc) but it's your interested here is a thread I started on another forum about it. (Warning, lots of pictures on it)

http://www.1969stang.com/mustang/forum/showthread.php?t=5814

Once I get started back up on things in the next month or so, I'll probably start a thread over here mirroring the other one showing new progress...

Thanks for any information you've got... definitely interested in the final product!

I bought my kit around the same time frame. (8-9 months ago) As far as I know the black steel CC plates and fixed LCA are standard parts. At the time of purchase I upgraded to adjustable LCA's but it literally took months to get them. They also sent me 2 left CC plates, so with the long turn around on the upgraded LCA's and the wrong CC plates, I think they sent the aluminum ones as compensation. But don't hold me to that. I bought all my AJE parts through Classic Performance and Repair, they are local to me so they dealt with AJE.

But if you wanted to upgrade I bet they still offer them.

I checked out your thread on 1969, that's a LOT of work. What area of the country are you? I've tried registering two times on 1969 but I keep getting an email saying I was declined. I have no idea what that's about.

What are your plans for the rear suspension?

Chappy
09-18-2009, 12:12 PM
When I ordered, I wasn't even told that anything was available other than the standard pieces. Might give AJE a call to see what they say about the adjustable pieces.

I'm from Indianapolis, which is only about 2 hours away from AJE. I still had problems getting parts that fit correctly. They sent me a new set of engine mounts that wouldn't actually bolt up to the engine, that's pretty bad.

The car definitely has been a lot of work up to this point, still a long way to go. I haven't decided 100% on rear suspension, but at this point I'm thinking of doing a set flexaform fiberglass leafs. I've got an 8.8 rear I'm going to be putting in the car (my car originally was an 8").

I don't know why they would reject you from registration on the site. If you try again and can't get on, let me know your user name and contact info that you are trying to use and I'll contact one of the mods over there.

Where did you source the 04 hydro and booster? It looks brand new? Cost?

Do you happen to know the size of the master on that set-up?

Thinking about putting power brakes on my 69 camaro.

The booster was from a member on this forum, 100$. It's in very nice condition. The master cylinder I bought from http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/

100$ brand new, best price I found for new. The master cylinder is 1" 1/8th bore and it's the same master cylinder for many years of the GT/Mach 1/Cobra mustangs.

I'm not sure how a ford hydro would fit in a camaro but all I had to do was shorten the rod to the pedal.

Here are a couple more pics/updates...

I have a hydroboost/mc from an 04 mustang. Just made a small modification to the rod and it fit nicely.

Here is a pic under the shock tower of the lower bracket for those interested..

I cut out the stock radiator mount. I never liked and with the added room I'll have no issues with a big elec fan and any pully setup I want.

On that master thats not power right? I need to get rid of mine it takes up too much space changing plugs on that side is a nightmare

Beautiful car and great work! Your car is an inspiration to me. I still can't believe you got that much wheel and tire under your Mustang. It looks like your going to have a shaker too. Very cool...:twothumbs

As a side note, I went to AJE Racing's website and now its a site for SEI Communications, a telecommunications company. I wonder what's up with that.

Yeah, I'm going to try to make the shaker work but with the windsor deck of 9.5 vs. the cleveland 9.2 and the single plane intake, it's gonna be tricky! I modified the engine mounts to the lowest possible....we shall see.

The site is working for me...what address were you hitting?

Have you decdied on a clutch/flywheel ?

I went with a Promotion clutch and Fidanza aluminum flywheel. I don't know what brand promotion uses, it simply states "KUSTOM" on the part list. I was assured it would be fine for my 650hp range.

Clevorguy, I think I can see in your pictures, but I figured I would ask. Did you weld in the Kmember to the rails? Also looks like you added some square tubing to triangulate the rails with the core support (to replace the stock strut rod brackets). Correct?

Just wondering, what radiator did you use as well? It looks like you cut the radiator support flush, correct?

I used a universal radiator from Jegs.

Your car looks great & puts down some solid numbers.

I have a few questions.

1. What are the details in the rear suspension? Deep tubs?

2. Specs on the wheels and tires?

3. Plan to do any track days?

Thanks

clevorguy

The rear end setup is a stock 9 inch housing. The 4 link is a TCP G Link setup. No modifications to the wheel tubs. I lucked out with the backspacing.

17x9 front, 275 tire. +25 mm offset.
17x10.5 rear, 315 tire. +27mm offset.

Yes, I've been looking into when track days happen and who runs them. I've never been to one before, trying to figure out what I need to attend one.

Cool thanks.

Does the 17x9 fit due to the custom front suspension or running spacers? I've yet to see a 275 on the front unless it has had after market suspension & well mods. Here is a track day thats coming up.

I run an AJE K member setup for the front suspension. It allows your choice of spindle and I run a SN95 spindle. I needed a 2 inch spacer for proper fitment. But no mods to any wheel wells.

I found that track day but I'll be on vacation that week! Figures. It looks like there are some in June I might be able to attend.

I didn't realize you were in San Diego. There are plenty of little track events to keep a person busy, especially if you don't mind driving around SoCal. You should meet up with us next time we head out to an event. Also, if you are interested in autocross, just as Dan Weishaar with the Hotchkis H-Team Roadrunner.

Oh, and really dig the Mustang!

If you are just starting out with trackdays go with NASA in Group1. The learning structure and instructors are very good. Take that beast to California Speedway or Willow Springs (the big track) and let that Tiger stretch it legs!

I drive mine mostly on the street. When I take a drive in the local mountains I adjust my shocks accordingly. Handling is great, I am very happy I went with adjustable shocks on all corners.

Hey there i have a few questions-

what year cobra rack are you using?

did you run a proportioning valve in the hydroboost setup?

also did the hydroboost bolt right to the firewall?

was the width of the cobra rack ok, because i thought a fox rack was required?

thanks in advance... im just about to put my aje setup in and ill be running hydroboost as well. only difference is that im gonna have to adapt it to an ls1 p/s pump

I went with a 96 streering rack. I have to shorten it.

I did not run a proportioning valve.

I had to drill holes for the hydroboost and modify the rod to the correct length.

The width is good, I had to use spaces for the paticular wheels I used.

Just the rods that tie into the bump steer, the rack overall was too wide..

Also, it wasn't a problem....I meant "had" vs. "have". The car has been on the road for over a year and have 5000 miles already on it.

Hi am just now having my motor rebuilt its a world block 427w. Iam going to be running fuel injection again. With your head setup what was your compression and chamber size? do you think you would of been able to fit those headers without the towers cut out? And is that a stock block, and how is you driveability? Sorry for all the questions love how the car turned out and the power. Its got me thinking that with the bigger head i really dont need to go with a blower in the future for the street/ auto cross. Iam just trying the gauge my options.
Thanks
