Victim of the implosion of the automotive industry in Detroit, i'm looking at a position that would plant me in eastern South Dakota.
Anyone here want to talk me into the position, or out of it, based on location

My Dad lives about 25 miles from Brookings which is about 2 hours from Sioux Falls... I guess it depends on what youre used to...People are nice... houses are cheap... But Damn it gets cold....I could think of worse places to live..

Canton is about a half hour from Sioux Falls, typical small town. They do have a cruise night and car show in July that people around the area seem to think is THE car show but I never much cared for it. The cruise night is fun but the cops have cracked down on the burnouts so it's pretty mellow.
The SF area seems to be doing okay as far as economy goes. Housing is cheap compared to alot of areas, especially if you get into a smaller outlying town. It is realitivly flat and not the most scenic, it can get cold (-10 at times) and it can get hot (100 & humid) and the wind is usually blowing. We definately have 4 seasons, spring and fall are usually great, cool crisp nights and warm days. There are mosquitos and gnats as well which make working in the garage at night with the doors open not very enjoyable.
There is a 1/4" mile drag strip about 45 minutes SW of SF. The closest road course I can think of is down south of Omaha about 3 hours away. The Twin Cities is 4 hours, Des Moines is about the same. There is a good free car show downtown in June called Automania if you decide to come check out the area, the only down fall for travelers is it's on a Wednesday night, always right before Back to the 50's in St. Paul.
Here are some links to area things.

I hope that gives you some insight. Why did you specify Canton? Adams Thermal Systems maybe?

Really in the preliminary stages of interviewing for a new potential employer. Just trying get a handle on the area.
So are you talking me into or out of the area? My history is living 26 years in Oregon, next 22 in SoCal, and the last 5 in SE MI. That makes me an old man.
You live there LT1, would you move back if you lived elsewhere? Why, Why not?

I'm not trying to talk you into or out of it, just trying to post some facts. Me personally I like the area but it's about time for me to move on. I've been here since I was 20, now 34 and it's time to try something else. I'd guess the climate is similar to MI but can't say for sure as I've only been there in Sept.
I do believe I'd move back. I grew up in MN and it seems to be a little warmer here in the winters. Not as many lakes if you like to fish though. Some nice areas along the river to hike and camp. The crime seems low, the news isn't filled with murders and drug busts, people are mostly nice, you can get out of the city and into the open pretty quick.
I forgot to post a link for real estate so here are a couple.
