Hey ya'll...I've been scouring your board for several weeks now. It's time for introductions:

I'm Terry. My son Travis will turn 18 next month. My connection to this forum is all about a father/son project and a common love for all Camaros. I'm getting my Camaro ready for the road. I bought a plain stock '69 Camaro coupe 26 years ago (I was 16). It's still stock, but it's been parked in my shop for about 10 years. My son recently drove his '97 Z28 into a tree. I bought it as a donor car and now I have to decide if I really want to convert my solid original 307 2bbl TH350 car into a LT1/T56 hybrid. Travis is currently looking for a car to replace his Z28. He'll probably spend $7K to $9K. This site has been an excellent resource so far.

Many thanks to all who contribute!

Welcome. There is more than enough help on this site to tackle any project.....I say go for it!

Welcome Rolltide!

Because your '69 is a plain coupe... it would be less painful to convert it. ALSO, because it's been parked for 10 years.... I assume there are reasons why you don't drive it now. If you are looking for a great Saturday Night cruiser.... LT1/T56 hybrid!

I have been back and forth on this issue myself.... I seem to come back to conversion every time.

Reasons...yes. The TH350 needs rebuilding and the front suspension is not safe above 50 mph. Other than that, I've been raising kids for the last 19 years and haven't had the time, funds, or energy to take on a restoration project. My son will start college this fall as a mechanical engineering major. Whatever we choose for the Camaro will be a good experience for him. I'm looking forward to getting started!

Terry,
Welcome, and good luck with the Camaro. It sounds like a neat project for you and your son!

I have a question. Rolltide in South Carolina? :lmao: I bet football season is interesting in your neighborhood. Kinda like me(Georgia native) here in Vol country.

Just returned from the shop. The LT1/T56 combo is 99% removed from the engine bay. Unfortunately, the last 1% might require a little ingenuity
:hammer: I'll have it out and cleaned up tomorrow so I can see what I'm working with.

And Bill...I do love football season. There's no color like Crimson! This fall, however, I'll probably see a bunch of Clemson Orange. And for you...I'm sure it's worth the sacrifice of living amongst Vols to see Pigeon Forge every day!

:icon996:You are so right. You must be familiar with this area I like to call "God's country"!
If you are a lifelong Tide fan, I am sure you already knew how to hate orange (you were just used to it being mixed with blue :lmao: )!

You're right Bill. I was taught to hate Orange Tigers at a very early age. And I also think you're right that God smiled when he created Pigeon Forge!

The engine and transmission are out and clean!
:bananna2: It's amazing how effective an air chisle can be at making a little extra room.

I want to save any parts of the '97 Z28 that I might choose to use on my '69. I'll be researching and asking about brakes and front suspension, steering, AC, interior parts, etc. to pull from the wealth of experience that makes up this forum.
