I know this is what you're supposed to do, I'm just not sure I'd have the cojones to do it.

Well, it certainly couldn't hurt to try. You are not going to outrun the bear.

Of course, the fact that there was at least one other person there may have helped a little.

You don't realize how well they can move for such a large animal! May as well try to stand your ground, because like it's been said you're not outrunning it!

when I was about 9, my Dad, (who grew up in the bush) and I were walking up this trail leading to this creek where he had his minnow trap set near where he grew up in Northern Ontario......we walk up this little hill and at the top we're face to face with a Black bear going the opposite direction on the trail!!.....surprised all three of us .....for a split second nobody did anything.....then my old man clapped his hands really hard and yelled HHHHHEEEEEEYYEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! at the top of his lungs......that bear turned around and took off like a shot in the other direction!.....the whole thing was over in a few seconds.....dad said "bears dont want no trouble.....unless theres cubs around".......Ive often wondered what would have happened if we started running.

if you see a bear in the woods ...... start yelling and screaming like a banshee

Black bear poop is small and has berry husks and small mammal parts in it.

Brown/Grizzly/Kodiak bear poop smells like pepper spray.

I'd stand my ground no problem but I'd crapped pants as well.

I have fished a number of times in Alaska in Brown Bear country. I once asked a guide about carrying a .357 for use against an attacking bear.

The guide thought a moment and said, "If you carry the .357, you should probably file the front sight nice and smooth."

That made no sense to me, so I asked why.

The guide responded, "So when that bear takes the .357 and shoves it up your rear, it won't hurt so much."

The guides (illegally) carried five shot, 12 gauge pump home defense style shotguns - three rounds of 00 buck and two slugs. They hoped that by using all five rounds they could break the bear down, because even those five loads were't going to kill a bear.

What was Mr. Chuck Norris carrying?

A good, loud yell can scare off most animals. It's a sign that they can read as perhaps you are ready to attack.

Reminds me of a conversation at Turner's about the 500 with 2" barrel in this kit.
