Hey guys-
This is my first official post. I just picked up a 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback......I was thinking of giving it a little Pro-Touring touch with wheels and suspension.
I was messing around, doing some rough sketches of some wheel combos and stances.....This is the stance and size wheels I think would look cool......what do you guys think this setup would be??? 19" wheels in the front, 20"s in the back? Or 18s and 19s.......not sure......Let me know what you guys think....:smoke:

It's your car and you need to build it to your taste. To answer your question about the wheels I think 18s and 19s would look good. These cars are pretty big compared to the Camaros and Mustangs so I think they need some sidewall on the tires. When I see these cars I think NASCAR infleunce. Something like this http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/featuredvehicles/b_body/mopp_0605_1968_dodge_charger/index.html

Looks good to me. I would go for the white package. To me it would be great in Pearl white with one single candy blue stripe from hood to trunk, like you would see on a mustang from the early Trans Am racing series. Continue the stripe and paint sceme under the hood in the engine bay also. That with the low profile tires and big wheels fillling the wheel wells would look...:yum:. Throw on a set of very subtle knock offs, hood pins, dual single exhaust tips out the rear valance. A modernized vintage race theme. Just my two cents.

Have been messing around in Photoshop. Starting to look pretty cool. Thinking a black out hood, hood scoop, and hood pins. Dont know why, but I always love this pewter color......:smoke: Think it needs any stripes? I like how clean it is. I dunno....

Welcome to the site. I also have a 1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback. I am running 18's on mine with a custom front and rear suspension. The 18's are are great size on these cars. Post some pics of the actual car if you get a chance.

Very cool!:). That is an awesome website you have there sir. I need to see exactly what the 18"s look like. Im just in the process, of dreaming up what I would like to ultimately look like right now. I am a newbie to the muscle car scene. Ive been a drooling observer for too long, it was time for me jump in. I may be hitting you up with questions from time to time. I hope you dont mind. This site looks like a great resource.
My 68 GT Fastback, is a major project that is just beginning. Its going to take a lot of time, and work, but that is fine by me. I picked up a solid roller with complete glass, interior, suspension, brakes, etc. Just no motor. Lot of body work to be done, but she is a Texas car, that is pretty solid for the most part. All the floors, doors, rockers are all solid. There are only two small holes in the trunk, and a small hole on the bottom right quarter, that I plan on replacing. Im just now in the process of getting her home, and starting the cleaning/tear down phase. Top of the list is getting her to the media blaster...........

Thanks SVT. Looks like you have two very nice rides yourself! I have your website bookmarked, and look at it all the time! May have to hit you up from time to time.....:smoke: If you have any extra parts from your 68 GT let me know. I am on the look out for a center console, and a replacement dash pad at some point.......Talk to you later.

I like the rendering in white!!!
As far as wheels size I would do 19's up front and 20's in the rear...
keep us posted of your progress.

That was actually supposed to be silver, but didnt scan in so well. I am really drawn to a lighter pewter color. Black out the rear panel dropped a bit on 18s and 19s.....I messed around in Photoshop a little more.....
neat car to fix up for sure. your drawing looks like about an 18/19 combo to me. but that opinion is worth what you paid for it. :)
welcome to the site.

Thanks....Ive been a Torino fan for a long time, and finally got one. Yeah on the wheels, I like big wheels, I just fear going TOO big. So the 18/19 combo is seeming more and more the way to go.....Im a long way from that point though! I just like to have an idea in my head where Im going with it. Later on...

Heres a few pics of mine with 19" all around. The stance isnt quite right on it though since theres no engine/tranny in it.

Those look great! Thanks for posting the pics. After the engine/tranny are in, are you doing a drop at all? I was looking at the 1,2, and 3" drop coils and leaf springs.....Not sure how much a drop would be required to get this.......check out my fun with Photoshop.

To be honest i'm not sure yet. I gotta see how it looks with everything installed and then decide. I dont want it to be too low since I plan on putting some miles on it and dont want to be slowing down for every bump in the road. I'll be sure to post pics when I get to that stage.

Did some more photoshopping on my 68' Torino GT, and I really like the looks of how this could turn out. 19, and 18" Boze Stinger wheels, with a 69' Torino Cobra hood treatment.....:smoke:

I had some thoughts that i was going to tell you, then i kept reading through the the posts and at your photoshop renderings and the most recent one is dead on what i was going to tell you. You cant go wrong on a pro-touring car with a set of Foose Nitrous wheels, the C-stripe and cobra jet scoop bring in some nostalgia. I think 18's in the front and 19's in the rear would look awesome.

What kind of wheels are those on #17? Also that is the best looking C stripe I have seen on a Torino. I recently picked up a 69 myself.

personally these wheels are killing this car. the updated torque thrust style wheel looks cheap. there are hundereds of better 'pro-touring' styled wheels out there.
also try a two-tone with your silver/pewter. body line up a darker color. im doing a 69 fairlane green on top and black on bottom...

I like that 71 Cyclone
The Cyclones are overlooked I think and undervalued compared with the Fairlanes and Torinos. There's usually several 68-mid 70's Fairlanes, Torinos, as well as big & little Rancheros at the shop. The Cyclone's a 429 4 speed car.

Update. I sold the car 5 years ago to pay rent. Haha. Things went to **** real fast from 09-12.
At least it went to a guy who's business is restoring mustangs. Oh well. It was fun to dream awhile.
Oh yeah I disagree with the one upper above that says a set of 19" Foose Nitrous wheels look "cheap".
Your green rendering looked bad ass though. Thumbs up.
To each is own though. Good day fellas.
