Ok I am running a 402 bbc and will be backed 6 speed in a '72 chevelle.

I am looking at running the holley commander 950 or something similar.

What i want is something that will fit under the stock cowl air cleaner, (trying to keep it all there and functional).

Can this work? Has anyone put this setup on?

DO NOT mess with the Holley, to prehistoric.

Use a Accel Thruster ro FAST XFI. It is woorth the extra money.

The Holley Commander is a fine system for basic EFI. It can control fuel (bank to bank batch injection) and spark and there is a good to excellent support network in the EFI forum on Chevytalk.com.

The best advice I can give is to find out what the good, reputable tuners in your area are familiar with and use that system, if possible, unless you love tuning. And when looking for a tuner get lots of referrals. There are good tuners, and there are folks who can pound away at a laptop to no good effect.

I am running the Holley (running is a misnomer, as the car does not yet "run," but you get my drift) on a 454 with square port LS-6 heads in my '72 442. I can tell you that I had to make an air cleaner for it to fit under the hood. Not a big deal, but it may not fit without a little fab work on your part.

Well the air cleaner I am using cost $150.00 and that is for a repo. piece. The air cleaner seals to the hood of the car. So hieght is what I am worried about.

I started with an air cleaner I had laying around, which in this case was a unit from an 80's Camaro (I think). I cut the bottom loose, and rewelded it with filler where needed to make it sit lower and at the correct angle. I added a K&N air filter and air filter top, and installed a rubber seal to seal it against the hood.

FWIW,
I am running the Holley Stealth Ram (it's the intake you want, if you agree with Frank that Commander 950 is archaic go with a newer computer but i would still run this intake over any of the others available for sbc) and it fits great under the hood of a '68 Camaro with no mods:

The stealth looks real good. But I am looking at keeping my Chevelle looking original with the factory air cleaner. Trying to keep with the whole resto mode theme.
