I watched it. And rewatched it. And am totally convinced the kid knew what was going on. I mean, the "cop" guy that was talking to him had a mic on his lapel for pete's sake!
someone drove past. "umm there are people over there filming you" and neither of them looked up to see what she was talking about.
staged reality. Whatever.
It was a cool build though. loved the car.

I watched it!! Good show! Wish they'd "steal" my Firebird!!!!!
Hey if you've got connections, I've been active duty for almost
20 years now (and don't have a pearcing in my lip!! Or anywhere
for that matter...)
Did anyone catch the make/model/name of the rims???

It was a 66 Chevelle but the wheels were a one-off design by Chip. They didn't mention what size they were. If anyone knew that, I'd be interested. My friend has a 67 and wants to get new wheels and tires. Finally gonna get rid of the 15's.

Paul...congratulations! I watched it last night but did not notice. That's awesome. would've been nice though if they would have mentioned the part on the car...or at least had you go out there to help install it. I have noticed a new trend on that show. After the person is told they're being overhauled, they cut to a new scene and the cars owner is now wearing apparell of the sponsers who supplied parts. It's like when a driver wins a NASCAR event, they put a hat on his head and hand him a Coke or a Pepsi at victory lane.

they didnt mention alot of stuff, like what trans they used, front suspension(though im gonna assume its hotchkis stuff because thats all they ever use) and the actual install of that quick-change rear(and the brackets the custom cut on the laser, they didnt show any of that stuff getting welded together) and the wheels, exhaust, all that stuff was left out too.

Well one of my local shop Team C which is a very small speed shop located in Bellflower Ca, did all the machine work on my motor. They got their 5 minutes of fame as well. They built the 383 for the chevelle. Also I think pretty much everyone from now on will know they are getting overhauled.

I think the original format was great but it was doomed to be short-lived. Now they will have to come up with a different scheme. The 'stolen car' theme just isn't going to work anymore. They should make it like that 'While You Were Out' show. Schedule the car to be done around a person's vacation or business trip. It would be a lot harder to plan but it's really the only course they're left with. I'm convinced those 2 girls on Doublehaulin' knew from the start that they were being Overhauled. They did not seem the least bit surprised.

I watched the show ,the Chevelle was awesome when they finished it,the rearend alone blew me away. Congrats Paul on your recognition for Hydratech Braking's contribution to the project, international exposure is always a good thing.
Tony, I would like to know more about those Fontana Wheels,I like the looks of them. I am in the process of finishing my suspension and starting to think about wheels a little more seriously now.

I've been thinking for a while now that the "stolen" car theme is fake. How many times can you get away with impersonating police officers and even federal agents before the Men In Black knock on your door? Also, wouldn't you have to pay taxes on all those parts, just as if you won them on a game show? It's still a great deal, but not a very nice surprise to someone who would have to end up selling the car to settle with Uncle Sam.
I don't buy the time frame either. I think it's the same as the Boyd show shenanigans. Chip seems to value his name and reputation too much to be associated with rush jobs. Imagine what all that custom body work could look like under the paint in a year's time if it was done in under a week! I've seen shrinkage in paint jobs from really good shops, that do high price, high quality, work.

Hey that is great Paul, has there been increased attention on the web site since the show? I'd like to find out. Just curious.
As far as the "Marks" knowing, who cares? Im just there for the builds, thats fun to watch. I wish they had 2 versions. One for the reality freeks and one for the car freeks. Maybe a DVD on the builds alone. I wanna see the fabrication, welding , and crunch work that goess on behind the scenes and less fricken fake mustache pranks...
If I was a "Mark" and knew about it.I'd play along too, maybe mess with that Chris guy abit then break open a sack of warm water in my pocket (tan pants ) when I get the final reveal...now thats reality TV....oh yeah then cop a feel off of Courtney when I pretend to faint. :worship: j/k

I came away from that convinced that the "will the engine start?" was just false drama. One guy from Ford Racing walked around for a while with a timing light in his pocket ... but never used it.
On the other hand, fans that attended all week claim it was really done in a week.
Somehow it all just doesn't all ring true to me. Impersonating a police officer is a serious offense, and cops don't take too kindly to it. I'll bet the format changes away from tricking the mark.

Okay gang I'm giving notice!!! I will be out of town for 6 weeks
to a military professional development course... that should give
Chip and his crew plenty of time to do a quality job on my Formula!!
And Courtney and my wife could have a Model Search walkoff... :icon996:
And Nanny 911 could make sure we're doing things right with the kids... :slap:
And Bo Bice and Nadia Turner could sing a duet in the background... :yeah: :git:
And the Survivor competitors could race Pike's Peak... :drive2:
And I just really want my car's PT-transformation done for free!!!!! :1st:

I also think people are catching on. But what's irritating to me is this "dull" response by these kids who have been given $30,000 worth of vehicle.
"Ah, oh. Cool umm..." Yeah, hello? :poke: Anybody home?
What the hell kind of response it that? No explosion of emotion? Man, if I were reunited with my long lost RS SS, I'd look like a mental patient :bananna2:

The whole fake theft thing got old with me after the first episode. I tape the show and fast forward through all that nonsense, hoping to see some more technical stuff. I do auto body repairs now and have done several high end restorations where I worked years ago. There is no way to do all of that bodywork, prime, block and paint a car in such a short amount of time without major shrinkage problems. Still, it's nice to see so many automotive related shows on TV and if they need to add some Hollywood to it to sell them to those who aren't as car crazy as we are then more power to 'em. I'll just keep the remote handy and buzz right through it.

Hi Guys - Thank you VERY much for all of the kind words! We have been working our tails off over the last few years, and it IS really nice to see that we are "getting noticed". The phones have lit up quite a bit since that episode aired last week, and many callers stating "hey how cool is that, we saw you on Pro-Touring also".
Again, a big thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout the years!
Hey that is great Paul, has there been increased attention on the web site since the show? I'd like to find out. Just curious.
The webstats have indeed shown some increased traffic, though nothing compared to the volume of phone calls.
Thanks again guys - keep up the great work with your projects. We are really really proud to be a part of many of them!

I was wondering if anyone knows what size and backspacing the rims are on the 1971 chevelle they Overhauled in season two in episode "Parts Guy"? Also the tire sizes are exactly what I want to do with my Chevelle, but I can't find anyone who knows.

I live 10 minutes away from opgi. Next time I stop by I will ask the guy the back spacing. The wheels are 18's in front and 20's in back. The guy really does work at the parts counter and during the week he is usually the only one there

Those of you doubting the 1-week duration on these projects are semi-correct. I know several people that have wrenched on various Overhaulin' cars, and I watched the SEMA episode in person.
The cars are definitely done start to finish in 1 week. When you see the reveal at the end of the show, that is 1 week. What you don't see is that the crew doesn't release the car right away, but they keep it for a couple more days and go over it carefully to make sure everything is tight and attached. They do this for safety. So yes, it is a rush job to get to the reveal moment, then they have some time off-camera afterwards.
How do they do it? They work 24/7 on this car with a crew of about 30 people. Night shift and day shift. The car is being worked on non-stop. You can get a lot done with that many hands.

There was an article in Hot Rod (oops did I just say I picked up a hot rod?) a few months ago about the show. It said the recipeants (sp) do have to pay taxes on the cars just like game show or lottery winnings but so far no one has complained about that. I saw a few of the cars in person at a local car show a coule weeks ago and while they are amazing when You look close You can see the 7 day build comming through. I would certainly prefer they focus on the buils and screw the "drama".
