Is this a good idea, like 2nd gen Trans Am? If so where should they be placed on the fender and how big should they be? any specific features or shapes? I am considering this idea for my 67 Firebird in an effort to improve under hood air flow. Any takers?

Don't know if you've noticed, but a lot of new cars have them as well. It seems to have started a couple years ago.

Anyway, I don't know if there's a specific size, or even location. They are usually placed near the rear of the engine compartment and open into the engine compartment.
Somewhere in the vicinity of the top of the engine compartment would probably be the best place, since the top rear is the spot with the least airflow.

If your car has a little rake and a decent air dam the vents are not necessary, but they will make a difference.

Here's a pic I found of a 68 with 2nd gen extractors. I plan to do the same with my 67.

I have seen this pic while searching for info about this modification, i'm not sold on the 2nd gen extractors for my car. I want something more subtle, sort of like the 3rd gen t/a vent behind the wheel opening, I may make them myself if i decide on a look for this.

I didnt like this idea when I first read it, but after seeing the pic, I changed my mind, I like it. the shaker even looks good on that car. however, I think it would look better without the rear wheel spoiler. hte front one looks ok, but I would have trimmed it a little. Its a little bulky, but still looks good. Also, the bird on the hood would have to go. Maybe a small one on the nose like the early TA's. maybe a red nose too.

You know what they say about opinions, but just to balance justasquid's comments i have to say in my opinion that is the best looking first gen firebird i have ever seen! I want to do a clone of your clone! I want to see this car in person! 455, that is one sweet ride!

Another reason for fender vents is to help relieve the air pressure under the hood . Especially cars with Air scoops ,It has to go some where. And help cool the engine bay. Have n`t you notice on a car with side vents on a cool day the heat escaping.7825278254[ATTACH=CONFIG]78255
