Hey Guys,
It's been a while since I was really active on the forum... but anyway. My dad bought a 63 Chevy Truck and we want to build a fuel tank for it but we don't know what guage stainless to make it out of. What would you guys suggest? I've read about 16 guage being used but I wanted to get some different answers before we go buy a rather large sheet of it. We also plan on coating the inside of it with some sort of rubber/plastic coating. Even an epoxy based product.
Thanks,
Paul Z.

I use 14 ga for fuel cells, 12 ga if it's going to be polished. Anything less and it'll warp.

Matt is it the same 14&12 ga for alum?

Aluminum is sized in decimal inches in sheet. I use .100" 3003 H-14. Plate starts at 1/8", and sheet ends at .125".

And as a side note about the stainless tank, all you need is 304. Don't let anybody talk you into anything over that.
