I thought I saw this somewhere before, but does someone have the dimensions to locate the center of rotation for the stock ball joints (and possibly even the steering pivots) on a Camaro? I know I saw a MOOG drawing somewhere before. And NO I do not want numbers generated by the cheesy method of moving the shaft side to side. Thanks.

Tell that snowboarding boss of yours to go and buy several sets for you to measure, and then post the results here!!! I'd love to know the dimensions too. It'd be nice if someone had a nice BJ archive (leave the porn out of this...) that showed mounting patterns, pivot to mating surfaces, etc. Anyone know of such a thing?

BTW: The cheesy method you referred to works pretty well in the absence of tech drawings.

I think TeetoeSnowboardJones needs to not only pick up a few sets, he needs to let you cut them apart and measure them. Then you'll know.

Decided on the cutting apart method, just thought it would be easier to get someones Moog drawing if they had one. I'll let you know the results.

And now a word from our sponsors.....

And then read this Circle Track article on:

Finding joint centers (http://www.circletrack.com/techarticles/0304_meas/)

Or for the non math impared:

How to measure joint center (http://kwon3d.com/theory/jkinem/jcent.html)

Uh .... I think I'd cut my balljoints apart before using the "non math impaired" version. Hell, I'd cut anything apart before using the "non math impaired" version.

There isn't a round sphere inside the balljoint anyway, so once you have cut it apart, the center isn't obvious.
"Cheezy" isn't such a bad way if done carefully. :hmm:

here is a suspension dimension form you can fill out: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Pozzi/suspform.htm

Good article, Tom. The second one made my eyes hurt, and brought flashbacks of vector calculus and other nasty courses. Thanks alot! Meanie.

David,

Those numbers you gave Brian yesturday matched exactly with what I had by doing the "cheesy" side to side measurements so I feel a lot more confident in those. I guess sometimes I just get a little anal and want things to be down to within a thousanth. I know thats asking for a lot when the factory subframe tolerances are within like... what is it a foot.

Hey Foamy fan, already had that first article (one in my archieved suspension file) and the second one just gave me vector flashbacks from hell and cold sweats.

One of our machinists who worked for a few of the stock car teams is going to chuck the shaft in a lathe and turn it down to a point at the center of rotation for exact measuring.

I just got return e-mails from Howe, Moog, Lefthander Chassis and Coleman....

They all said to cut up an OEM, or whatever joint you are going to be using.

Free your mind........

I'd even cut up an atomic bomb before going back to the "non math impaired" site.

That non math impared link, just ruined 3 months of counseling!!:rotfl: :hammer:
