I'm can't turn my key over to start the engine now ;p I blame the steering-lock^^ Anyone got an idea how to remove the little metal ring? (Pictures will explain more, don't know the word for it)

I tried with my feets to push the damn thing in, but the spring is way to hard for me to manange to put a screwdriver into there at the same time as pushing it.

there is a tool you can get that you put on the column and tighten down and it will compress the things so you can pop the ring off..it can be done with your hands and a screwdriver but better off getting the tool helps to reinstall it also..prolly get it at local auto zone but here is what it is..

After seeing that footwear I'm not sure what to think. :D

I've messed with that retaining ring before. It's quite challenging.

I've had this problem, there is a steel rod that goes down the col from the key switch to a plastic block at the bottom of the colunm i have thats been my problem,it stops the key from turning you might have to loosen the block or mess with the rod.The col I have is out of a 78 camaro fitted in my truck.

I had that problem too. I used the nut and placed 2 small sockets, one under each side of the nut pushing down on the plate and then slowly tighten the nut. This will apply pressure to the plate and you will be able to get the ring out. I agree it is easier with the right tool but in case you dont have it this will work fine.

the tool is $20 or less. norway has to have some sort of equivalent to sears, autozone, and the other stores.

I had another problem once and I thought it was the steering lock.
My car was previously equipped with a column shifter and now it has a floor shift. It turned out that there is a short of a collar on the steering column, where the shifter is normally fixed, which can be turned, this turned by accident and I couldnīt get the key to lock the column. Once I found the problem it was easily solved, just turned the collar back and the key locked fine.
