This is THE car that won the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship for the United States and Shelby American on July 4 in Reims, France, and is one of my all-time favorites. It's going up for auction in May.. anyone got 8 figures worth of cash to loan?

This car goes up on the block tonight, Any guesses on what it brings?

I think it will bring close to 10 Million, but not over.

I seriously dislike $helby as a person. But this is one of the most legendary race cars in history. I hope it goes for huge coin and goes to someone who will put the car someplace where the public can enjoy it as well.

Seriously, this thing should be in the Smithsonian.

Care to shed a little light on the dislike?

if you read about the history of him, he was just a business man and bought his way into things. but some cool cars have come from him. so i really got no complaints.

IMO cars are not art, they need to be out there performing. thats what they were built to do. not just sit there.

Seriously? What rock have you been under?

Don't have time to track down the volumes and volumes of info on the subject but if you google "Shelby lawsuit" or search for the same terms right here on PT.com you should stumble over more than enough information to shine some light on the guy.

The guy made some legendary contributions to motorsports and that legacy cannot be tarnished. But the things he's done over the past 10-20 years TO THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP HIS LEGACY ALIVE all in the name of herding $$ are really sad. He really is pi$$ing on his own memory.

Couldn't have been summed up any better. I hope the courts in MA hit him up with having to reimburse legal fees for some good people he's going after in violation of a prior court ruling.

yeah ask anyone who owns a FFR Cobra- not his biggest fans. It's a shame, but he's been doing it for years. Ford didn't learn in the 60s and tangled with him again in the early 2000s.

bitchin cars though. lol

EDIT: It didn't sell and the bidding ended at 6.8 Million. There is a chance that it could sell over the weekend, but who knows?

Bad timing on selling it, with the economy the way it is. Wish I was rich instead of good looking.

Not sure what it takes to actually buy the car. I know the guy who they showed as bidding the car. Wasn't sure he had that kind of coin. Charley knows him too, maybe he knows more...

that was Colin, super nice guy. I called Charley right after the bidding ended. It looks like they'll keep working on a deal, but Mecum wanted 7.8 for Colin to buy it.

Colin is a cool guy. He deals in alot of these high-profile cars. He'd be a great keeper of the car.

damn true,

your pic did not work.

i want to see this car drive thats what it is supposed to do. If an airplane (im assuming its a plane) is still airworthy and will not be damaged in flight it should fly. just like a race car should be driven on a closed course or in a nastalgia race.

back to the post............ i should have called in. if only i had that 7.8 freed up from the stock market. I really thought it was going to 10million. well i went to a local car cruise instead, HAHA

The photo was the Spirit of St. Louis. I guess the Smithsonian doesn't dig hotlinking. The plane is too valuable to risk flying. But should be in a place where all can appreciate it.

I think the Daytona coupe should be treated similarly.

It should be in a place like the Smithsonian where people can appreciate it and it's history. But it's simply too much of a treasure to have out on a track.

There is a reason why "The David" doesn't leave Firenze. Technically the "could" pack it up and move it. But he risk is too great. You wanna see it? Go to Firenze.
