I can't figure out whether this should be in the brakes or suspension thread. Here is my questions. I'm building a 49 Chevy pick up on an S-10 chassis. Big Block, 4-speed, 9" floater in the rear on truck arms. My questions are the front suspension. At first I was planning to do a B body spindle swap but it seems there are too many negatives. What about a C-10 spindle? They are front steer as well, decent sized brakes, and the 5x5 bolt pattern I need. The reason I'm thinking about that spindle is at the circle track I used to live near, a certain class had to run the truck spindle to keep from breaking. I'm pretty sure they where A bodies and G bodies in that class. I don't have any sitting here now to get measurements off of either. Does anyone have any thoughts?? Ideas? Can I get the AFX spindle with 5x5 bolt pattern?? Thanks. Jon

I would consider what front brakes your going to run before you choose. Seem like your goin to need a big brake to slow that beast down.

There is not enough material on the C5 hub flange to do a 5x5 bolt pattern on our AFX spindle.

Thanks Mr. Jones. The 12 inch brakes on the B body spindle sounded like a pretty good start to me. Besides I figured that I could adapt big brakes to just about anything these days.

you could put a Caprice/Impala 12" rotor- or even a thicker 12" mid 80's 1/2 ton pickup rotor- on the stock G body/S truck spindle using the appropriate bearings and then make some brackets for some LS1 or Vette calipers.
the HD 1/2 ton 2wd rotor is pretty beefy- 12"X1/25"- and it has the 5X5 bolt pattern with 1/2" studs...

Okay, I'm listening... Tell me more Obie One... I would love to keep my spindles and put big brakes and the big bolt pattern on too... I'd really like to use easy to get parts too.

Company in California makes good wheel adapters, then just adjust backspace on wheels.

Adapters are out of the question. I plan to run Open road, Bonneville, Track Days, Auto Cross, and Hillclimbs (Hoopa Hillclimb). I'd like to get the backspacing the same front to rear so I can run all the same wheels, slicks too.
