Getting my art in magazines

does anyone know the best way of getting my art in a magazine? I have been trying to have my art published in a car magazine for like 6 years now and can never seem to get anywhere, not even a reply or a reason why. This has been one of my dreams and goals and have yet to even come close to succeeding. Can anyone help me?

Chris, most of the time, renderings are used in magazine as a support image for an article about a car build or a concept car. Usually, the renderings are of proposed modified cars rather than portraits of existing cars. The rendering is just a tool to show how an artist/designer (or the builder and owner) thinks.

Fantastic work, very accurate and I love the traditional medium. That's refreshing to see because most of us use some form of digital media somewhere in the process.

I don't want to tell you what to do but maybe you could try to incorporate some cool modification that you came up with, or an interesting paint scheme matched with some custom wheels.

I've never really looked, but I'm sure there are some fine art mags that would love to feature your work also.

Ben makes a good point. You may also want to try and sketch an existing project car a magazine is working on that they may not have gotten a rendering for. You'd of course be doing it for free monetarily but the exopsure is worth the effort. GMHTP just showed off their new Camaro SS they are building. Maybe draw something up as a proposal and send it in. Just a suggestion. You posting like this was a good idea. There are plenty of people who do renderings(Ben being one of them) on this site as well as some of the magazine people. I'm sure you'll get good suggestions. Your work looks great. Is this a hobby only or are you going to school for art/design by chance? Don't be detered, you're work is good.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and info. I have done some custom renderings over the years and they look pretty good, but I just never had the confidence to show them off. Also I am working on a custom drawing for my friend who is currently working on a pro-touring 69 Camaro. I have modified it, put custom wheels, shaved marker lights, and alot more to it as well, but keepin that on the dl until I post it although I'm sure you guys may have already seen the project posted and in progress on the site. And yes all my work is done free hand, no computers, no stencils, no tracing, just pencil and a ruler and my hand. I have been trying to get outta the whole just drawing portraits anyway, but I will still do them for my customers cause they always look good on your wall, in your garage next to the car or displayed at a car show.

Great work. One thing that will really help is having good photographs take of your work. Traditional media just doesn't transfer well to the screen, so its important to have good photographs. I don't know what size you're working with, but you may look into having your work scanned.

Yea dats been a big problem trying to show off my work on the computer. I try to take digital photos, which as u can see doesnt do the drawing justice at all and the only reason why I do it that way is cause just bout all my drawings are done on 19x24 bristol and I havent found a scanner big enough to scan them in. But I honestly need to do that cause it doesnt look so professional on my website with my crappy photography skills lol

Popular Hot Rodding just did a feature on car art. They profiled a bunch of artists. Maybe shoot them a letter or email, directly referencing the story, telling them about your work and provide a copy your best drawing to them. I'm sure other guys are doing this, and they may just print V.2. of the story and include you. In any case, you have great tallent, and in the end recognition will find it's way to you.
