Just saw this in the latest of Chevy High Performance
http://www.autometaldirect.com/content-page-132-AluminumParts.html
I wonder how the fit and gaps are?

Interesting. Tons of weight savings here for autocross or drag.

We are a dealer now for AMD. I have been thinking "what if" GM did a factory lightweight ZL-1 clone

MuscleRods, Will they be making these parts for the '68 Camaros?

I would say eventually on how the other stuff sells. They already have deck lids and have hoods for several different cars

Any idea how good the fit is on these new aluminum panels?

can anyone speak to the ease of prep/paint on aluminum panels? is it the same as any other prep? more difficult to paint?

I've thought about going the aluminum panel route, for what's available for the '67. However, I've worked with alunimum before and it can be very difficult to "smooth" out or "flow" correctly, Unlike steel. It is a HUGE weight savings, but I guess it really depends on what you want to use the car for. If it's a daily driver "type" then I'd advise against it. I have a new M3 with an aluminum hood. We had about a 3 min hail storm about 2 months ago and my hood paid the price. I couldn't get it in the garage fast enough. The deck lid on the other hand is steel and I didn't get a single ding. Aluminum is cool....to a certain degree. Just my 2 cents on the topic.

Here's a pic of a B-25 Mitchell my dad, older brother, and I painted back in '89 (...I think). Anyway,..a lot of aluminum panels on this beast. The only thing we didn't paint was the girl on the side. The owner even used my old football # as the tail #.
