I'm planning (within the next 6 mos or so) on buying a '67-'68 firebird that is "done". I will want to install my prefered wheels, so a mini tub will be needed. My question is, during the installation process, specifically the welding, will there be any welding near the exterior? I mean, will the welding harm the paint on the rear quarter, or will it be welded deep enough into the trunk area (off the existing well) that I need not wory about messing up the "done" paint? Thanks in advance for the responses!

Forget it! After reading this thread: https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46900 I realize that it just aint gonna happen. Way too much involved. I'll stick with stock. Sorry to bother you folks!

You won't mess up the exterior paint, you are no were near it for the welding you have to do.
Don't give up thou! If I can do it anyone can  I won't kid you it is time consuming to get it right but if you are handy you can do it.
But it is so worth seeing it when it is done, especially if you like wide rear tires:

Ooooh! Your car is looking sinister!
I've been poking around on here and found out that I can fit 9.5 wide on the rear without tubs. That's what I had on the 'vette I built and it both looked good and was sticky enough for 11's in the 1/4, so...I think I'll stick with the easy road. Besides, I'm not THAT handy!!! Thanks and happy building on your sweet ride!
