I have a 68 camaro and noticed a while ago this problem. Now that I am getting around to the body work, I am curious as to the cause. Im referring the gap of the door to the door jam. The drivers side is about 1/8 inch gap, but the passenger side is about 3/8 of inch gap. Its very noticable. The quarter panels are original, so I dont think the issue it there. The only thing I do know is the passenger side door is not the original one, but I believe the drivers side is. the car has had a passenger side wreck, but I dont think it would be enough to mis align anything. There are reminants of what looks like a scrape down the side of the car, and the old style method of drilling holes to pull the metal out. there are about 10 holes drilled in the quarter panel where it was pulled out, but it doesnt appear to have had any damage near the door jam area.
Can the door hinge adjustment cause this much difference?
would a door from a different car be this different?
I dont think the door was reskinned, it looks orignal, but I guess it could be.
My final question is. How do go about fixing this if its not in the hinge adjustment?
Is my only option to weld metal onto the end of the door? and if so, will I have to remove material from the front?
The fenders are not on right now, But I guess I should mock up the fenders and see exactly where the issues are before I do any cutting or welding. Im just curious if anyone else had this issue.
thanks.
