Im not an expert painter, so take this information with a grain of salt, but I have painted a few cars with great results. I have never used the Devilbiss GFG-670, but I have read a lot good reviews on it. The thing to consider is to make sure you have an air compressor that supply enough cfm's to the gun. The HVLP guns tend to have special requirements where a conventional gun you can get away with darn near any compressor that can keep up.
In my opinion, for a first time painter, I would suggest a little bit cheaper gun. Good painters can make a 25 dollar gun spray as well as an inexperienced painter with 500 dollar gun. there are differences of course, but being a first time painter, I'm not sure if you need the upper level guns.
I personally use a sharpe finex 3000 and love it. It's quite a bit cheaper and sprays really well. Ive heard they are not as durable, but they are fully rebuildable, so I'm not too concerned about it. I'm using a 1.4 tip as its a fairly versitile tip. I can spray most paints through it. this is my first gravity fed gun and it takes some getting use to having the cup on top, but once its set correctly, it really lays down a very nice finish.
I have a cheap sears model gun that use for primer and it does ok. Im not 100 percent sure, but I think it has a 1.6 or a 1.8 tip in it. but it sprays high build primer well enough. It has to be sanded anyway, but it lays out well.
The thing I would do though is stay away from the debilviss starting line models. I almost bought the set as they were fairly cheap, but then found out they were just debilviss, but actaully made in china out of crap materials. I've heard the finish line models are ok though. Again, anything about debilviss is just what I've read or heard.

I have found it as cheap as $279. It comes with three different size tips to make it more versatile. Its not cheap but I wouldn't call it expensive.

I painted my car with an iwata gun. Work had a demo gun that I was able to barrow. I had to go back and reshoot a section and had to use a devivills flg647. It shoot very good and was a reasonably priced gun.
