Hi everyone,

I don't post much here, but I've been learning here for quite a while. (I post more at www.camaros.net (http://www.camaros.net)) So I hope this post isn't inappropriate, but I'd like to ask a favor of anyone who has a couple of minutes to spare to help my daughter win a $20,000 scholarship.

She was selected by the www.zinch.com (http://www.zinch.com/) website to participate in the "March Madness" competition. She made it past the state round and the regional round and the first round of the Final 64. She is now in a tough back and fourth fight in the second round. The competition is based on votes by members of the site.

I know some of you are going to want to stop reading after that last sentence since no body really wants to join some website they know nothing about. But please keep reading. Creating an account only requires your name and zip code and an email address. It is a reputable site, designed for Colleges and students to get to know each other. If any of you could create an account there and vote for my daughter I'd greatly appreciate it!

Once you create an account you get an immediate email confirmation, no waiting. You have to click on the link in the email and then you can log in and go to the March Madness Competition and select the tab for the West division and you will see my daughter's name, Holly Houston. Click on her name and then click the Vote icon under her name.

She needs more votes for this round, which ends 3/27/09 at 11am EST. And if she makes it past this round she will need votes in the following rounds also.

Even if you choose not to vote, if you have any kids in the "about to go to college" age group, you might want to point them to this website for their own interest. (Of course if they could vote for Holly that would be great too!)

Thank you very much for all who choose to vote! (Some members at Team Camaro have actually help on earlier rounds to get Holly this far. Thank you guys again if you are reading this here.)

If you choose not to vote, I really understand and thanks for reading.

Ray (and Holly)
(Holly has setup a website www.voteforhollyhouston.com (http://www.voteforhollyhouston.com).)

Sorry, I voted for Talysa Stockert. Thanks for the heads up on this though. I think it's great that kids are getting this kind of exposure and oppurtunities. I wish your daughter the best of luck at UNLV.

Thank you everyone for the support! Holly and I really appreciate the votes.

Frank - someone told me the site was finicky for them using browsers other than Internet Explorer. But I used Mozilla and had no problems.

Go-Fish - even if you voted for Talysa in the East, you can still vote for Holly - You get one vote per matchup. So you can vote for both of them each round - unless they are the final two. Wouldn't that be cool though.

How come on the webpage it says you've pulled out of the competition?

fishtail8 - I'm not exactly sure myself to be honest. I'm working on figuring that out and fixing it right now. Holly lives with her mom, my ex, not me. Something apparently happened on Zinch that her mom didn't think was fair/right.

For those who didn't see what fishtail8 is referring to, Holly's mom posted a message on www.voteforhollyhouston.com (http://www.voteforhollyhouston.com) stating that she is pulling Holly out of the competition. Based on the reason she lists in that post, I think Holly's mom is being childish and teaching Holly a bad lesson. I've tried to tell her that she is teaching Holly very unsportsmanlike conduct by giving up like this. But she just says I don't know the whole story. I'm very embarrassed by her actions. No matter what happened, Holly's mom should not be conceding the contest like this. Especially since Holly does not agree with her mom on this! I just found out that her mom decided all of this and then told Holly after she posted the message and, get this, changed the password so Holly couldn't fix it.

But Holly isn't really out of the competition in any way except in her mom's head.

I just can't believe her mom did this. After Holly fought so hard to get this far her mom is just screwing this up by posting that Holly has given up. Holly has not. I just don't get it, her Mom has worked extremely hard herself, I don't think they've slept much at all during this.

Please don't let Holly's mom's temporary fit/childishness stop you from voting for Holly. I'm so embarrassed by her mom's actions right now. Help me get Holly past this round, that ends tomorrow morning, and hopefully her mom will regain composer by then and re-join the battle.

Again I feel very embarrassed posting this, but I didn't want to leave fishtail8's question unanswered.

Thanks again for everyone's votes/support!

Frank - Yep, never regretted that - except that it added Holly to the way too long of a list of kids out there growing up with divorced parents.

Well, one hour to go and it looks like it will be a dog fight to the finish. Holly is behind at the moment but both are still getting in votes and it is still close.

fishtail8 - an update on the side issue - Holly's mom got over her temporary insanity/childish fit and is back in the fight. I convinced her to see the light. (In her defense I guess, she is very tired and stressed from working on this for several weeks now.) Anyway, www.voteforhollyhouston.com (http://www.voteforhollyhouston.com) has been updated to remove Holly's mom's statement and she has been back in the fight since last night.

Thanks again everyone,

Ray

Holly didn't make it past this round. Put we put up a good fight. She lost 1273 - 1323, with votes still coming in for both of them in the last seconds.

Thanks again to all who voted and helped get Holly this far. She wouldn't have been as close as she was without your support. It was an interesting experience. Even with the loss, it was a fun battle.
