I think it depends how often you want to fix your tranny. I managed to break the T-5 in my '83 Z28, which had a wopping 140 horse when it was brand new, and no where near that at 110,000 miles when the tranny broke. Personally, I wouldn't use a T5 in anything that made any kind of power.

If your big-block is making 450 hp, I can't even imagine what kinda torque it's putting out; probably over 500 ft/lbs. The '88-up World Class T5s are only rated to 330 ft/lbs. An earlier non-World Class is rated even lower. Maybe, if you don't use slicks, and don't powershift, and have a really good clutch, it'll last...a few blocks. LOL

If you can get the IROC box for real cheap, you can get a rebuild kit from www.hanlonmotorsports.com and it'll take some abuse. Otherwise, look into a TKO 600. That's a very strong 5-speed.

T5+torque+traction=you walking. Dont waste your time on a T5 (hell, I broke a world class T5 with a N/A V6 just doing a burnout).
