I heard that the 1969 Camaro Conv bodies are back but you have to assemble them on your own $7999 for the kit they call it.
Anyone heard anything about this?

It is a fact. GM does have a cease and desist order issued. However, what you hear is basically correct. I have been in contact and am going to put one together soon. The bodies WILL NOT be sold anytime soon as complete bodies. But it appears there may be nothing the General can do about someone buying everyone of the components and having it assembled. And it appears there is no wrong doing on anyone's part. It will be a couple months before we can do it, but I do plan to do one for education sake.
As for the price, I have not gotten a clear retail price for the components, but it does seem it will be in the $8k range for everything.

Correct me if I am wrong but with the other roof panels that are around this could be made into a coupe rather easy could it not??????

I thought the roof panels were just 'skins' and had no real structural integrity otherwise.

Yeah, but right now the rear shelf, rear seat divider, roof skeleton ar not avaiable. Also the windsheild fram is different. With that said, it would be simple to add a roof if original was not a concern.

Firewheel Classics shows an inner roof brace kit that look like most the roof structure. What I have still not seen is A pillars and the structure on the inside of the rear quarters the window regulators bolt to.

the thing that was so cool was that you could get a 69 shell mini tubbed and dipped in epoxy primer and shipped to your door for those of us without resources to easily do all that fab work it was awesome head start. i bought a clean car but i had thought about starting a second , wilder car using that kit . oh well .

They're quite a bit more money, but what about this route?

when i read the article in hot rod " this changes everything " i went online . it was either c.a.r.s. or dynacorn and i discussed a primered rolling chassis with steering and brakes , c4 front suspension and rear tubs , primered with epoxy . the estimate was it would be about twenty grand for a hardtop . they even had a file with options you could down load . then i went to the same site a month later and they had removed anything mentioning it . i could find the site if i jump around later , but i think it was one of the two i mentioned. the hot rod article also mentions the bodies being dipped in e coat or epoxy primer. if i got any of this wrong im sure there will be a barrage of corrections but thats how i remember it. i ended up taking the 20 grand and just buying a clean car and im happy .

ps i looked at the site for mikes custom cars and it seemed you got more for the buck with the other company . thats no dis to mikes but i think the other deal was more of an assembly line with higher volume. now mikes is the only game in town so he will do ok.

First time I heard of that, but funny enough, those are my plans if it goes together nice.

are your plans to do what i described , which part ? i still think its cheaper in the long run ,if those bodys were available like i described, to get one tubbed and primered. when you factor in the time and hassle of tearing apart a rusty car , sorting and storing the parts , fab work and ordering new metal etc , i would take the plunge and order it done . also the project will take a huge step forward in time probably a year or so . imagine starting with a black primered car instead of a pile of rusty mildewy stuff! and your not cutting up anything valuble to the purists , and your only buying the parts you need as you need them (you can tell i have storage issues where i live) the only reason i bought a whole car is cuz i scaled my project down so i could be on the road sooner. im gonna be on the lo tech side of the pro touring scale . good luck with which ever way you go !when i have time later ill search for that website and any of the files i might have
