Everyone needs a break after April 15 tax deadline, so what better way is there than to let off a little steam by taking it out on the twisties on the Angeles Crest Highway? As usual we will meet at the Shell Station off the ACH exit and the 210 freeway. The exit is one exit east of the 2/210 interchange. We'll head up the ACH to Newcomb's Ranch, have a little breakfast (unless you have the big-a$$ breakfast burrito), and bench race along with a bunch of other gearheads with cool cars. Departure time from the Shell Station is APRIL 19 @ 6:30am.

Accoding to Microsoft, the 12th is Easter. That said, either day is fine for me.

I'll be there on the 19th. Samantha's not gonna be happy with me if I work on the Camaro and not her buggy but.... she'll have fun on the Crest too.
If any of you guys are interested there's a build thread for her buggy here

This is what it will end up looking like when it's done.

Things are looking better. I jumped on the freeway last night and made my first 20+ mile run. With all my crazy intake issues it was great to just jump on the freeway with the windows down after dark and just cruise.
That was NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't painballed in SoCal before though we are going to an organized field and have set it up to play the courses with just our own party, no walkons.
When I played a bit more regular in NorCal I also only played oganized courses. I never bought all the gear needed and plus I like that courses regulate privatley owned guns so you don't get all bruised up from people setting their guns to high.

If you haven't already you might check out SC Village and Tombstone in Corona. Also Field of Fire in Santa Clarita depending on where you are located. Played on all of them. SC Village is huge and you gotta go once just to see. Field of Fire is interesting they have underground tunnels.
I agree regulated pressure for sure, just gets to crazy otherwise.

Here's some gotta-get-it-out-of-the-house deals for my fellow ACH'ers.
Small tube-fin type oil/power steering/AT cooler. -6 fittings, both on same side. 19.5" OAL x 2.5" tall x 0.75" thick. Includes mounting kit. I think it is a Flex-A-Lite part. Never used. $10 and can bring tommorrow.
New set of 2-1/2" Flowmaster tailpipes for 1st gen Camaro. No mounting parts. Purchased from another member of this forum. $50 and you pick them up in Glendale.

Hey Carl, not sure exactly the style of that p/s cooler if it's something I can mount on my car without to much work or not. I'll bring cash, you bring the part just in case :)

A great time was had by all.
We had 16 people and 11 cars, the biggest turnout yet. Aaron, Lance, and Chad prettied-up the group by bringing along their significant others. The weather could not have been nicer.
Stars of the cruise were Lance and Aaron, both with newly built cars out for their first ACH run. Stig got a ticket for no front license plate, but fortunately a guy on a motorcycle just in front of our group took the hit for a ticket just before we got to the radar trap.
Who has the pics!

And if you notice... half of your cars had no front plates. Only cause I was last man in line did I get snagged.
Oh well, $15 worth of 'fee's' and an hour or two of my time in line getting it signed off is no biggie. I had the Go-Pro mini cam setup going on the roof of the car while we came up the hill. The Officer asked "What's the camera for?"
It was one of those "Here's your sign" moments, where.. me being a smartass by birth had to bite my tongue...
I'll edit up whatever footage I got and throw it up here soon as I can...
The meal was pretty good, We had a good time talking with everybody. Got some good ideas for my Camaro. The only crap part of the day was everybody hauled butt out of town, and I was left in the parking lot waiting for Jon to get out of the John.
Then we got stuck behind the worlds slowest drivers. We finally got past them at the only passing lane on the downhill run and got stuck behind a even slower guy in a Hybrid Camry. He would do 20mph behind the cyclists then pass them WIDE on blind turns. Idiot.

I go up the ACH most every weekend. You'll notice I run a front plate. The two are not unrelated.
The other thing you need to be aware of is the first/last stretch of about seven miles from La Canada to the Angeles Forest Highway where you're supposed thave your lights on - have your lights on. We had someone ticketed for that as well.
-The Stig-
04-20-2009, 01:49 PM
I don't have to worry about the lights thing... the G8 runs the lights on all the time. The only thing that switches off when you run into a dark spot or a tunnel is the interior instruments go dim.
Front plate on my car is ugly... :(
and every other car in the world for that matter.
You know, aerodynamically speaking... having that flat surface on the front of my not-as-flat but much more slippery car adds drag to the car, reduces the efficiency of my air intake and cooling systems by pushing air away from the ducting causing the car to work harder. Burning more fuel in the process to maintain said speed.
... Front plates cause global warming. There, I've said it. They are the enemy. That and Hybrid drivers who ride their brakes down the ACH to "recharge" their battery.

You guys missed the Jeep on the way up. Chad and I had to slam on the brakes every time we went from sun to shade. She stopped one time. She finally saved up enough smarts to pull over after 3-4 miles.
I also like in the last photo how Jon is giving Rick the respect that a young man should have toward his elders.

There was one of those on the way down for us. Someone challenged couldn't decide what to do about the bicycles and ended up stopping in the middle of the road to think about it.

Here's the video I quickly slapped together. I couldn't use any of the audio taken by the camera... was all buzzy and basically no good. I'll have to address that another time...
Lighting conditions weren't the best for this 'cheap' of a camera. But it is handy dandy.

Hey Jon that is major drag! Were you the one saying you have been having cooling issues and changed the t-stat?
Yeah that was me. Saturday it was running about 200 (10-20 deg hotter than normal). I thought it was due to the hot day. So I put in colder plugs, and topped off the fluids when I did the checkout Saturday night. Something else went wrong. I want to do a diagnostic and find the root problem before I tear it apart and check everything else.
Good luck getting a fix together!
Thanks! It will be an opportunity to upgrade parts!

Darn... oh well. Check your computer, you might have a basic video editing software. I used Windows Moviemaker for my video, it's quick and easy.
I've also go Adobe's Premiere Elements program, I'm not that versed in it but I have used it to make some DVDs.
If I want to do any serious editing, I'll go over to my moms office and jump on one of her Mac's. Final Cut Pro for the win!:1st:
Video editing is a pain in the butt, especially if you try and time shots to music. But, it sure is rewarding when it all comes together. :)
