I picked this thing up over the weekend....It's a 70 Duster, slant six but the guy gave a 360 with the car. I've never been a MOPAR guy so this will be a fun learning experience. The body needs very little work and is rust free. My wife had one of these in HS so I figured that I would build it for her. It will be a very low budget build, just body/paint basic suspension upgrades / lowering, 17" wheels, engine swap and interior (I say this now...lol). The best part is the guy just wanted rid of it so I got it for the low, low, low price of $0!
Anyway, what do you think:

Sweet deal! And to think I had to pay $200 for mine and pull it out of the junk yard!
BTW.. If your gonna be shaving those turn signal indicators(on top of the fender) when you paint it, I'd be interested in them as I have been looking for some for my duster.
Awesome project! Keep the updates coming.

Alright, it has been awhile since I have updated, so it is:
I have not had time lateley to work on the car but dug in a little this week and pulled the k-frame, suspension and steering. I ordered all new bushings ball joints, control arm bumpers, inner / outer tie rods. idler arm....everything new for the front end and should have it all next week.
The motor has been at the machine shop for about two weeks now but I have not checked on it, I probably will today but I told the guy that I was not in that big of a hurry right now as I am focusing on the suspension anyway.

LOL...I'm really not in a hurry, I actually went by there yesterday and he is working on the heads, has the crank polished already and the block is on the honer, so it looks like it will be done soon.

That is SO cool!
I'd love to find a 68-ish dart put a modern AOD trans and the 2.0l I-6 out of a Jeep XJ in it and make a bitchin commuter that'd probably knock down 25mpg.

class67
06-27-2009, 08:33 PM
No updates right now other than I did pick up the motor from the machine shop and will be assembling that in the next week or so.
I am hoping to maybe change out the rear end tomorrow, I picked up a 9 1/4 rear with 3:23's which I think will work just fine.
It's been so damn hot though lately I have not been very motivated to get into it but I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and get it over with...lol
I'll post update pics after I get the rear in place and on the ground with all four new shoes.
Bjkadron
06-28-2009, 07:02 PM
9 1/4 is a pretty heavy rearend! You might want to look at an 8 1/4... they aren't the most fancy rearends.. but they are pretty stout and have great parts availability. I got mine out of a Volare and all I'll have to do is move the spring perches in. its about 2 or 3 inches wider too.. Not exactly sure.

LOL....108 out here today but I did yank the rear out anyway, I'll put the new rear in sometime in the next few days.
class67
07-11-2009, 07:56 PM
Not to much new but I did set the new rear end in the car and figured that it is a little wider than I had hoped (2 1/2"s), so I have decided to have it narrowed about an inch on both sides so ensure that I can drop the body down over the rear wheels without any rubbing issues.
Hopefully I will get the rear end back in the next week or so. Then I can get it back on the ground, finish stripping the car (interior, glass etc...) and then it is off to the body shop.
class67
07-29-2009, 06:33 PM
Update....I have not had any time to work on the car much lately but I did figure out that the 9 1/4 rear just will not work out so I am having an 8 3/4 built as we speak and should have it by the end of the week. I should be able to get it installed this weekend, so I will post pics then.

Ok, been a loooong time since last post on this car. It is a very slow build, due to time and motivation lol. I have the motor back from the machine shop and am putting that back together this week and the 727 trans is completely rebuilt too. All of the suspension is and brakes are on the car after I finally got the 8 3/4 at the right width, it is in as well and now the car is at the body shop. This is a pic of the car right before we loaded it up. I'll post progress pics of the bodywork as we go.

LOVE the LIme green Leaf spring treatment!... LOL... I truly appreciate when people take a path less traveled in the car world. Need more Dusters, Scamps, Swingers, and Darts on the road.
Heck If I could find one un-rusted I'd even vote for a Volare' R/t... LOL
