Headers to fit '67 Chevelle

I'm having a hard time locating heads for a reader that emailed me.

Its got Brodix Track 1 heads with raised ports and angle plugs on a 383 in his '67 Chevelle.

It's a street car, so he is looking for something in the 1 5/8 - 1 3/4-inch primary tube range.

Everyone I've called either wants over $1,000 for un-coated hand-made headers, or they simply don't have somethign to fit. Any suggestions?

Wow , so is it the cylinder heads that are making it difficult to fit ?
Do the raised ports require a different header ?
Can't you just use off the shelf Hooker Super Comps or something ??

Maybe you could buy a kit and build them !! ???

I'm sorry , I have no idea where to find said kit , but....maybe someone else will chime in here.

I ran into this problem with my AFR headed BBC a few years ago. I ended up with a set of Stahl headers to the tune of $1500 plus another $400 or so to have them coated. Raised ports are a bitch on a street car.

The only thing I can suggest is either cough up the money for custom headers or take a chance with cheaper off-the-shelf brands, maybe they'll line up and work ok, maybe not. I guess it's a chance your reader will have to take.

I also happen to have a '67 Chevelle with a 383.

I run AFRs but I know the headers I've got would fit. Because I've got minimal ground clearance (the car is lowered), I went with Hedman shorties. Yes, I know I may be sacrificing some power, but I have no clearance issues (to the ground or anything else, like the starter or steering shaft). If the heads have angle plugs, he'll have to run a shorty plug though- My AFRs are angle plug and I run ACCEL shorty plugs so I have adequate clearance to the primary pipe. This is typical in these applications as well.

Because they're not full-length pipes, they should clear everything okay.

The other affordable option is a weld-it kit...Hedman has those too (check out http://www.hedman.com/products/?id=3524 for a listing of their kits) and the prices aren't outrageous.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I'm going to look into the hedman weld in kit but I'm pretty sure the owner cant do the welding so I'm still looking for an out-of-the-box solution.

There is a Hooker PN that says angle plug OK but raised port no but Bill says it just might need some minor 'adjusting'

I've adjusted headers before and its not a big deal on my car, but I dont know how much they would need to move and over how long of a distance, might not be worth it...
