86 Monte starter electrical question

Is there a small post on the solenoid that is hot when key is in run position, but dead when key is off?

not unless its an old points setup car, then the relay terminal will have resisted ign voltage to it, this was supposed to feed 12 volts while cranking to make it easier to start.
