Hi, I've been working on a '67 Camaro for a couple years but this winter I've finally gotten going on it and decided to do a Pro-touring style car rather than a full auto-x car like I had planned. I drew up a rendering I hope to be able to come close to below.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The plan is to go with a Prodigy bar/Moser 12 bolt rear and Wilwood six piston brakes, Forgeline 18" wheels and QA1 coilovers up front. Going to go with carbon fiber Hood and spoilers from Anvil, probably stay with the steel trunklid. My plan is for classic small block power, a M21 tranny and a mostly stock deluxe interior with C5 seats to help keep me from falling out.

Right now I've just finished welding in the trunk floor and hope to have the DSE Mini tubs in pretty soon.

Here's a bit of an update for this weekend. Just ran out of Argon so the welding has halted for a while. :crying:

Drivers side frame is all filled in and ready for the DSE Mini Tub. I varied a bit from thier patterns because of the non-staggered shock towers which allows the drivers side to be the same as the passenger side. Just have to fill in the tub with a piece to make it the same as the Pass side. Also trimmed the fender lip to 3/8" at the top and 1/2" around the sides. Nothing like taking a saw to your NOS fenders...

Trunk floor is in and drop-offs as well. The previous owner put on the GM rear fenders but was planning on tubbing the car for drag racing so he never bothered with the inside. This was a North-east car so I had to change out the entire trunk as it was a bit to rusty to use. Bit of a pain but allowed me to do much of the Mini-tub work before putting the floor in the car. Next is the Outer-inner fender.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Picked up some '98 C5 vette seats which will be recovered in Parchment color to match the rest of the interior. Looks like the seat tracks will mount easier with the factory brackets removed, just have to drill out the big rivets they have holding them on. Should be pretty easy with a couple plates, they do hang out a bit more than I'd like into the rear floor area. They seem to have had a rough life, somebody was hard on thier vette, we had to make a new link for one of the motors as that was broke but all the motors work.

Back to work on the inner fenders. Great weather here in NH on Saturday, finally got to open the Garage doors and let some fresh air in... Got the Outer inner fenders in and one side of the DSE Mini-tub, just have to weld in the other side and the back will be sealed up for the first time in twenty years or so. :woot:

Finally have both tubs in. :yeah:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

That was easy so I put on the trunklid and got that lined up. Suprizingly despite the previous owners efforts it fit quite well.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

With the trunk lid on I made sure the hinges were still functional and in the right place with a bit of purcusive adjustment and welded in the supports to the mini-tubs. Now I just need to do some grinding to clean things up and we'll be in the sealing buisiness.

Thanks, I only had a few color pencils so I was a bit limited on color choices. I'm thinking a light gold color for the stripes and wheel centers while the blue will be a darker pearl color.

So this for this update I worked on getting the rear seat and stuff fit in since there's a bracket that holds the back of the armrest that needed to be welded in. As it turns out I'm finding that there's a bit of work to do when using the Deluxe rear seat and armrests with the DSE Mini-tubs. After stripping the bottom seat I had to notch the back corners which I was kinda expecting to have to do. That went pretty smooth. I did weld in some angle pieces to tie the frame together then painted it all with some old satin white RustTough.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The next part was a bit more work than I expected. From the pics I've seen it looks like the standard seat has a curved frame while the narrower deluxe seat is straight. I ended up cutting the seat frame, moving the rails in about an inch and a half or so and re-welding them, using a piece cut from the bottom seat to tie the two parts together. Turned out pretty good. Hopefully the cover will fit right...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

My last trick for the weekend was to get the armrest and filler panel to fit. These also have to be trimmed alot to get them to go in where they should be. After a couple hours of cutting a bit at a time I have one side fitting nice while the other is still in process.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The filler panel is finished in the Parchment color the interior will be. Should look really nice against the metalic blue. Also sprayed a bit of paint of the metal armrest to keep rust down a bit. GM didn't seem to waste much paint on stuff that wouldn't show. Still undecided on whether to paint the metal trim above these panels the blue body color or just black, I'm leaning towards blue right now.

It's been a few weeks but I have the car tipped up with my redneck rotisserie so I can work on the bottom. Have all the weld's finished up, a coat of Eastwood rust encapsulator and seamsealer on all the welds and seams. Now just need to finish it off with some Chassis Black and get the cushions back on the couch before someone notices them missing. :)

great job, those mini tubs look like they came from the factory that way. Do those seat motors have a control module or just a toggle switch to control them?

Teamwild
05-01-2009, 05:34 AM
They have a module on the bottom of the seat. I ran a couple wires into the main plug which had a big orange and a black wire which I assumed were positive and negative and all the motors worked so it will just be a two wire hookup. They don't have the lumbar or memory option so that might be a bit more of a mess.

marc_b
05-01-2009, 07:54 PM
that would be cool to get the memory functions to work also. those options on older cars are most likly saved in the seat module since gm didn't use body bus systems in there cars then. As long as the seat position sensors, most likely hall sensors in the motors are good you should be ok. once agian keep up the good work and keep the updates coming.

The bottoms all painted. I used Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black. It's a bit shinier than I expected but I imagine by the time the body is painted there will be plenty of dust on there to dull it down.

I also put in the front spring eye mounts to see how they fit since they're reproductions and far from being the same shape as the originals. Had to move one hole a bit and the crosshole looks a bit crooked. Hopefully it will still work with the Prodigy bar.

Received a bix box from Second Skin last week so I thought I'd line the roof while it was on edge. Even with the chain from the trolly hoist laying against it there is no rattling when tapping on the roof now. Amazing product! And great service with fast shipping. :thankyou:

After sanding off the primer the PO stuck on the roof (nasty gooey stuff) I lowered my car back down to earth. I had the car sitting on caster wheeled plates and noticed it was pretty close to ride height so I dragged in the rear tire and took some pics. Looks like it should be an inch or so higher to be drivable but its been up on jack stands so long it seems really low now. I like it, just a little short on the front part. :)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Didn't want to let the freshly stripped roof sit around too long so I finally got to try out the Epoxy spray bombs I bought. Actually worked pretty decent. The two part activation worked good and the cans sprayed nice but did have some drips from paint building up near the tip. Kinda pricy at $19 a can though, took three cans to do the roof...

Tires are 335/35/18 Pilots. Just need some wheels to put them on. :)

Heard from Frank at Prodigy last week so hopefully I'll be seeing the Rear/Prodigybar/wilwood brakes soon. :yum:

Most of my work lately has been doing bodywork on the edges of the roof but the Prodigy bar showed up from Frank so this weekend I installed the main cradel after painting it black. Blends in nicely with the rest of the floor so it's a bit hard to see in the pic. The rear axle should be here from Moser pretty soon, can't wait to get some suspension under the car again.

After reviewing my budget for this build I was thinking I might need to change its name from High Carbon to Low Carbon, but Anvil had some Blems available and Mike's Custom cars had a front spoiler so now I have a pile of CF waiting to be installed when I finally get to needing a front end...
