Anyone notice the article in the Ap 09 car and driver about the Jerr Dan element wrecker? It can hook up and tow a car without the driver even getting out of the truck in 8 seconds. There are pictures of it hooking and towing a car parallel parked with cars in front and in back!! That took 12 seconds. The article dealt with repros but they also mentioned the wreckers are being stolen by thieves to steal high end cars.

My 68 was stolen a long time ago and luckily found unharmed, but with a truck like this it would have been gone for good. Almost makes you afraid to park anywhere. With the driving season coming up, what is the best anti theft method?

Damn !
That sucks !

I've got alarms and tracking devices and guns..... on , and in my car , and on my person.
So maybe , between the devices and some strategic parking , my car won't get stolen.

I think a good thief will always find a way to steal what they want.
But a lazy thief can be deterred by some devices.

It can pick up a car that is parallel parked between other cars 3 inches off the bumpers. It lifts the end of the vehicle over the others and pivots it out. There doesnt appear to be a "safe" spot.

Amazing. Probably the safest spot is in your garage. But that's not much fun.

what about those cameras that were mounted on the trunk, it can read 300 plates per hr to find the cars that are wanted by the lenders.

Sucks if someone has this there is little keeping them from getting your car.

Was just reading that article yesterday at work. Sure is some amazing stuff they can pull off with that equipment. You have to figure that thiefs that know what they are doing and are successful would find a way to own a piece of equipment like this.. It did say in the article that they are often stolen by criminals for this reason. Kinda scary to think about.

Wow, that is even worse than the one in the article. It lifts the whole thing onto the truck. The other one looks more or less like a regular tow truck and only lifts one end of the car.

Here is the poor mans version of that. Dollies with air bags in them that you roll under the car then inflate the Bags it raises the car so you can pull it out.
Guy I used to know "Kenny the thief" was in the business of repo-ing cars. (He had a 80's Caddy NY plate I REPO U) He made these bags before these trucks were out. you had to see him in action. God rest his soul
