Now a lot of people hated Boyd, disliked his attitude, or personality what ever.
Now I met Boyd at 97 Hot Rod Power Tour when his 57 was with them.
Now i walk up, notice small things, make comments both to him and with my buddy. He listens to how I explain how we can do some ideas on the cheap.
Now Boyd walks up, shakes my hand and my buddy s and we chat, he thinks as I tell him how I would have to make something over him pulling out a chunk of aluminum and firing up a million dollar milling machine.
He let me sit in the 57, and fire it up. Very cool, I still have the signed Hot Rod he gave me.
Never gave me one one bit of attitude or anything, saw him after the "Boyd " name got trashed and stolen basically.
He was fed up, his name and reputation got trashed and was going to cost him a lot to get back and rebuild.
Now he was still kind, had even tried some of my ideas on doing it simpler and was impressed after finding them working.
But it seemed he had the look like a dog that had been beat one too many times. You know the one that if you was a friend he remembered but strangers he would rip apart.
I think a lot of Boyds problems had to do with being kicked a few to many times.
Another friend of mine met him while looking for a replacement for one of a set of old Boyd billet rims, this was not long before Boyd passed away.
Rick introduced him self as my friend, this eased him in to chat, he asked about things, how his show was going, if he was getting things messed up back in order.
He was nice and cordial, Boyd got his name and number and address and in about 3 weeks a new in box, very dusty, set of wheels matching my Ricks, showed up on his door step, 4 call tags and a note stating that Boyd had found him some new rims, he was to send the old ones back and it wasnt going to cost him a dime.
Oh and each wheel had Boyds sig on inside and had been cleared.
My buddy hasnt decided if he is going to run them or simply save them.
Now these at one time were probably 10k set of rims, Rick got his from a swap meet, dealer didnt know they were Boyds true billets.
But anyway Boyd could have sent him away, not remembered chatting with me(but he did and asked how I was and if I still built cars) or been a true ass.
He lived up to be the man I met some 12 years ago. Not the guy everyone chats about as being a bad or rude or whatever.
Now I do also hope to meet more of the car guys I read about, used to when I was going on HRPT.
Having to change jobs so much lately have put me in a bind and I hope I can come back soon.
Just a good memory on a famous fella who was a regular guy to me.
Now the late Jeff Moses of ACC carpets, I could go on about him also but thats another post.

It was pretty stupid of him to let himself look like an ass on TV like that. You don't see Foose doing that.

he seemed like a nice enough guy on TV (never met him though)

that being said he also seemed to push his employees past the limit with the far too long work weeks (been there done that)

an employer has to realize that the new guys (apprentice types) will do the long hours because theyre d amn glad to be there (been there done that)

but the journeymen types, the ones with the real skill set, the ones really valueable to the company eventually realize that all the long brutal hours in the end will get you nothing more than a divorce as their spouse feels like a single parent (been there done that) and (not my case but losts of guys I know) end up payng through the nose for a house that they dont even live in

and these same journeymen are also quite capeable of taking their skill set down the street, opening up their (his) own shop and can take a very signifigant and hurtful number of the former employers customers with him as he is after all, the one with the actual skill set and can do actual work (been there done that too)

It's all in the editing. Editors can (and will)make people sound the opposite from what they really said.

A lot of the show was made more dramatic for TV. I met the owner of that red twin turbo C2 Vette they built on the show, it was portrayed as an incredible last-minute thrash with all kinds of drama. I asked the owner about that, he said nah! They worked on the car over a year.

Ok so maybe my message should have went by regular reply rather than quick message window, but had several things in front of me trashing him then he got compared to Foose.
Now if it hadnt been for Lil John Buttera, Boyd and dozens of other big time builders Foose may not have came out as a builder as there wouldnt have been custom cars like there are now.
As for grammar then someone better start editing other posts as well as working on spelling.
and last I heard this was a forum for and about cars not English 101.

You have some interesting and often entertaining insights. But your posts are really, REALLY difficult to read. Like it or not people assign a certain level of credibility to an individual based on how the message is delivered. How you communicate is, in many cases, equally important to what it is you are attempting to communicate.

Consider this site an invaluable opportunity to learn what you missed the first time around; you know, while you were sitting in the back of the class acting k0oL, smelling of weed and reading Hot-Rod.

When I see posts like that, I usually just blow past it and the read the drama that typically ensues. My firefox browser has a spell check that normally saves me internet harassment. As far as correct sentence structure, we are all victims of the public education system.


I freaking hated English class and left creative writing senior year after 10 minutes the first day.

I'm reminded of the kid in school who used to bark out, " We don't need to know none of this." not realizing the richness of the irony in his use of the double negative. Of course, this took place right after he'd reached into his personal bag of FAIL and earned a "D" on a paper and just before he roughed up the other kid who'd just earned an "A".

I wonder how he's doing?
