What is the purpose of the aluminum spacer/bracket that goes between the hydroboost unit and the firewall? Is it to raise the master cylinder to a level position or to clear the engine, or whatever...
Why cant you just bolt it directly to the firewall which would place it at aq 90 degree angle to the firewall?
TIA, Tom

The bolt pattern on the hydroboost does not match the bolt pattern on the older cars, so an adapter plate is machined to make it a bolt on affair. Hydratech kits are alot more than just an adapter plate, as they have included all the parts to take the guesswork out of what is needed to make a complete system.

Yes.. but Why the 'Angle', in that adapter plate? Why not just go with ...say.. A 1/2" plate?
The adapter plates Ive seen have an angle in them that will have the effect of angling the hydroboost unit and the master cylinder, upwards (towards the hood).

you could press out the studs and drill new holes to line up, but the lower hole on the brake peddle will make the rod travel at an angle. the angle braket puts the booster in the correct angle. I used the braket from my vacuum booster and adapted it. Not as cool looking as the machined aluminum, but for free it looks good

it's at that angle so it can get to the proper hole in the brake pedal to make for a nice pedal ratio that has just the right amount of travel with the right amount of effort.
if you were to try to maintain that ratio by bolting the booster straight to the firewall, the booster and master would be down so low that you'd have interference issues with the inner fender well and maybe even things like the header and valve cover.

When I put a hydroboost from an astro in my mustang, 3 bolts and the center lined up, but when I installed it the master cylinder hit the prop valve. An angle was needed to give room for the brake lines.
