Are there any further questions about how overly big wheels affect performance? :)

Interesting... I have similar problems hooking my car on 17" street radials, but I don't stay in it like that when it spins.
Looks like a pretty easy fix though, I've seen much worse.

70 psi in the tires was too much!

Derek, give yourself credit for using 17" wheels when you drag race.
Those 20" wheels and 20 or 25 series tires are like ice skates on the strip.

...And to think some people wonder why I switch to the slicks on the strip. Feathering the throttle would have been another option too. Damn shame.

You can blame that on one factor...the driver...end of story.

Yeah, my 17s are bad enough... maybe 1 out of 5 runs I'll actually feather it "just right" to pull off a 1.97 60' and those runs are usually only if I'm close to the front of the line of street tire cars, after the slick-tire guys run.
I'm betting this was his first time on a track... looks like the same rookie mistake I made my first time out (but without the whole crashing part). I stayed in it, expecting it to eventually hook as it typically did on the street, but it just kept spinning... street-tire cars bring a lot of water with them onto the track surface.

You can blame that on one factor...the driver...end of story.Of course that's true. But not very interesting. It's like pilot error when a plane crashes. What is interesting is what's beneath the human error. What was the driver's error? He certainly showed little skill when the car headed for the rail. Would a better tire have helped him (I say yes)?

I say its safe to assume the driver is the same guy that decided to try to drag race with those huge rims with no sidewall. Yep its all him

That is an ultra lame wreck. On the shiny side, I have now detirmined that 68-69 chevelles look good with a short cowl hood. I think I'll get one.

I hope it was his first time. spinning the wheels all the way through the 60' is not how you drag race, unless you're in a movie.

It was. Notice the staging guy was having to tell him to roll forward more. I really think it was his first time. Sucks as I know the pain and the sound. It can be fixed though.
that was way better than the last chevelle wreck I saw at a strip. The car 180ed and landed on top of the guard rail slid back wards down it a log ways. He managed not to turn it over but the car was a mess.

Actually he should be happy thats all that happened. It wasnt THAT bad. I ran street tires ONE TIME at the track. Never again. It was scary and unpredictable, and like that guy I got all over the place. Fortunate enough for me i didnt smack the wall
