I realize that some people don't care for engine covers. They like to see the muscle. I feel like they clean up the engine bay.

The building of an engine cover doesn't seem too difficult to me whether I go with steel or fiberglass, but my question is, do they generally have any kind of insulation or foam underneath them?

If you're talking like the factory ones on some of the late model cars, no.

Yeah, basically. Like the covers on the escalade 5.3/6.0 whatever, or the LS1. Those type deals.

Except I always figured the factory ones were plastic, so I didn't know if they had some kind of protection from heat under them.

Thanks.

It's a pretty tough grade of plastic. If there's anything, it's a thin foam layer of crap that doesn't do much insulating.
