as a counter thread to the pet peeves thread i decided to list the things i think are cool!

rat rods......something about them i just love the lunch money budget hot rods...yes they're low tech cant handle or ride comfortably and a little rough, but i love them especially the scary open wheel very fast ones! flat black paint is awsome as long as its not faded primer.

nice radiator mounts....i love a nicely executed radiator mount

sleepers...i love tired or average looking cars with bad paint and 700+ hp under the dented hood and killer suspension! i have a friend with a Nissan 240 sx (front engine rear wheel drive import) that has a sr20 turbo motor in it with every thing done to it (really fast Japanese turbo motor for that car) and the car has stock wheels and peeling paint yet it hauls. i also like to see this done with any other car.

header wrap....in a world of ceramic coating i love to see black nice neat header wrap

nice engineering. I think many people on this board will agree with this one (i think Carl C.'s car fits this catagory perfectly). i like the non mega dollar cars that look awesome and out perform those 100+ grand "pro" built cars.

no cookie cutter cars!... i like original styling and ideas

Not that I'm biased but I love it when the exhaust exits out a body panel with the pipe being flush with the panel. I also love 0 offset wheels where the spokes of the rim are flush with the edge of the rim and tire, giving a nice, clean streamlined look in the wheel wheel. To me, it helps 'fill in' the car. I'm also a sucker for white interior. Don't ask why but a custom white interior to me is the sh*t. Mine won't be white because it doesn't suit the car but when pulled off well, it's unbeatable.

I love wheels with a deep offset.
equal diameter wheels on front and back.
I too, love it when the exaust exits through a panel and is flush.

hidden wires, hidden plumbing, hidden accesories and general "simplicity"

i also love it when "that car" fires up just to show how the engine sounds at a car show, and everyone within ear shot nods in approval.

Rat Rods - I'm going to have to 2nd the Rat Rod thing. They ARE cool as hell. I would love to do one. Financially they are my cup of tea.

Custom Interiors - I absolutely LOVE custom interiors (when they're done right).

Polished and Brushed Aluminum - It just looks so much better than Chrome. Chrome to me is something that mimic's something that it's not. Like polished aluminum. It's the 'poor mans' polished aluminum.

Gen II, III, IV Technology - Change is good. Out with the old in with the new. I do not fear change, I embrace it. I love all the new technology in our hobby and hope to be an owner of the new LS2 in my car when it's ready for power.

Great Paint Jobs - There's nothing like a great paint job on a car. You know....like looking into a mirror. No orange peel, just smooth as glass.

Its cool when ....in the family SUV, I give it a little gas, and the 4 year yells - MAKE THE TRUCK A CAMARO DADDY!

Its cool when...your son runs up with his hot wheels car and says "Look at the headers on this one dad!"

Its cool when...an aftermarket product has good directions, all the needed parts in the box, and works like it should.

Cool things...

...Hearing the turbo spooling up
...Aftermarketing parts that really fit and don't have to be modified
...Deep dish wheels
...Body pannels that line up
...A sweet paint color that you don't normaly see on a given style of car
...Looking under the hood of a car and not seeing what you normaly expect, ie. Turbo's, unusual motors, ect.
...Seeing muscle cars pass exotics at open track days

I'll third the rat rods and deep dish wheels.
Second the turbo, unusual engine combo, the thumbs up, the nod of approval, and seeing muscle cars work exotics.

and add to the cool list:
...The whole pro-touring concept.
...The fact any car guy and bs with any other car guy even if one is rolling in a new 150k porsche and the other in a first gen Camaro.
...Tasteful, proper pin-striping.
...That ford and chevy guys no longer battle with each other so much as they are on the same team now.
...Ever mounting evidence that the new Camaro will be something even vaguely close to Kris's design.
...Having access cheaper, more plentiful, and more easily obtained parts than imports.

I love guys who just finally finish there 1969 camaro after 20 years, with a 427, with unknown compression and cam..... They take it to the track and run 12.20s at 114mph..

then later they throw on some headers and a torque convertoer and the thing runs 11.90s at 117 and it idles like its stock.. WOW

Ya i know a guy who did this.... Did i mention it was with stock suspension and 235/60/15 Drag radials..

The smell of spent race fuel

A killer straight body with a poured on looking paint job

A killer stance with just enough rake

Rat rods are actually one of my favs. Especially 40 to 50's style salt flat cars and 60's era drag race cars

The sound of a solid roller high compression hemi motor

Any dual purpose car that looks like it will kick your ass and steal your baby if you walk to close to it

My cute redhead in the passenger seat

Sano-clean hand fabricated parts

Ducting to help cooling

People who build their cars for self satisfaction

Oddball color combinations and body styles

The satisfaction of building and fabricating

The first trip in your newly finished car

Firing up a fresh motor for break in

Oh goodness I could go on. My wife says I have a problem.....

-Im going with the Rat Rod thing too. Cheap muscle, low buck, cool cars!
-Firing up your new motor and having it hit on the second revolution.
-Starteling a kid at the gas pump when I fire it up, to have him turn around and give your car a look of awe!!
-The stares and thumbsup on the interstate
-No-chrome engine bays
-Well tucked wheels/tires
-A home built car of decent, but not excellent, quality, where you know they tried to do everything themselves even if it didnt turn out to the high standards of the Foose/Trepanier crowd
-Somone who actually drives there high dollar ride everywhere
-Pontiac cars with Pontiac motors {sorry Yody, not to offend here}
-My buddies primered grey 63 chevy II that looks like crap to many...then you get to the stuff underneath....Fat Man frontend, nasty small block, TKO 600 tranny, 9" rear etc etc
-im sure ill think of more later............

-Then driving to the track and running 11.40's in the 1/4 in same car.:drive1:

-Enjoying the hobby and being positive on other people's concepts and hard work.:worship:

-Getting a "custom burrito" at my favorite mex food stand..*SPICY*:fart:

-Drinking a good hot cup of coffee after.

-My wife saying..Well go ahead and get it..i know you love your hobby thing..you deserve it honey.. :naughty:

I love simplicity.. where a car is just a car and not all cluttered up with stuff just because..

I love likeing a car and not knowing why because it all works so well together

Cars like the red witch where the wheels fill the so much that they look like they will spill out and in the same vein a car that has that "i want to beat the crud out of you look"...

Engineering.. where you look under a car and go "whoa".. it just looks well thought out and well executed.

.........

Yea, I must be getting old because I find less and less chrome in my designs.. My next car will have even less and more of the brushed aluminum industrial look..
