roll cage question

i know the cross bar on the main hoop needs to be at least 1 1/2 and i want to put in a angle bar for SCCA racing but i don't know how big it needs to be, right now the cage is 1 3/4 .134 mild steel, i know mark used 1 5/8 on the mule but it was chromo. can i get away with 1 5/8 mild steel?

I like to stay with a consistant size in that area.I'd do the angle bar in 1 3/4" .134 also. Make sure the angle is in 1 piece and the cross bar is 2 piece. Gussets are a plus

I believe the NASA rules call for the same size tubing used wherever the cage goes to. Check out a few different rules orgs to see what they specifiy, but definitely follow the one that will govern your intended use and area. Might want to check with the local tracks, and/or those you intend to go to, especially if they are a road trip away.
