Hey...anyone here going to the Hot August Nights event in Reno, NV this year? It would be really cool if there were enough of us to get together even if just for a beer.
Thanks

Well I keep saying the next time I go I'll be driving my car up there... and the last time I was up there was in '05! Maybe just maybe this will be the year! :smoke:

I go every year. Sometimes I bring a car but I have just as much fun when I don't. Without a car there I'm not always worried about some dirt bag stealing my car.

I'm already registered and I hopefully should be able to make it.

We were there last year and it was my dad's first year at HAN. Despite his excitement leading up to the event, I think he was a little disappointed. I think my dad's car was one of the very few Pro Touring-influenced cars at the event. In general, I don't think many of the people there appreciate muscle cars, much less pro-touring styled muscle cars (and especially numbers matching 69 GTO Judge's that have been lowered on 18's).
I don't think we'll be there again this year. Maybe if they added an autocross....

The evening of the 6th to the 9th is when I'll be there. It starts July 31st but until the 6th it is very slow. The big nights will be the 7th and 8th.
I understand they will be bringing back the cruise this year downtown. Last year the cruise was just up by the Pepper Mill and out at the Nugget. That is just not the same as the old downtown cruise.
I hung out at the Pepper Mill last year and there were tons of custom muscle cars. The Grand Sienna (old Hilton) is has a parking lot full of them.

I don't know about that....I got alot of attention last year from people of all ages, judges too. I even won an award. I had three pairs of judges come by and look my car over throughout the day which made me feel pretty good.

Jerry, the event is a blast!! I've been going for a few years now and got on the waiting list this past year. It's about a two year wait to get your number. That means I have two years to get my car done! 5,500 entries and then there are the cars that just get driven up there that aren't part of the show. It's one helluva time. Of course my dad lives up there so I have free room and board!! That's a big bonus.
I too would like to meet some folk... even for a beer or two. Name a location and I'll be there. We could meet downtown ie. Virginia Street or at one of the casinos. I prefer the Grand Sierra Resort... a lot of room and a lot of cars.

All I can speak to was our experience, which I did. We were at the Grand Sierra most of the time, which may have been a different crowd or group of judges from some of the other hotels/areas. Our experience with the judges for the various awards was that they were only seriously looking over and considering the hot rods and tri-fives. But hey, who knows, he may surprise me and want go again this year. We'll see. If we do go we'll look out for you guys!

I'm still on the waiting list to able to register, been on the list for about a year. If you've never been there, it's REALLY difficult to get around and park anywhere unless you are registered. If anyone is worried about leaving their car unattended, you'll be way more comfortable if you're registered and can park in the main areas.

I go every year. I stay at the Silver Legacy. I'll be there this August with the 1968 Z/28.

So is there still a lame and LONG waiting list to register for HAN? I remember that was one of the reasons we stopped going, it was like a 2 year wait. :machine:

They actually just opened it up to (I think) 6,000 or 6,500 cars so the I was on the list for less than a year....just got accepted for this year.
I would say that the wait is drastically reduced now.

I just got put on the waiting list after this past years event. I need more time!! I figured I could get the car done in the two year wait and now they opened it up to more cars? I better get back to the garage! I'll still be there this year. I met a few people last year that had left their cars home and still went because of the gas prices. I guess the 150.00 a year still gets you some discounts with the casinos and other venues associated with the event.

If someone needs registration for the event I have this years spot (not going to attend) already paid for and they just sent me the registration form for next year that needs to be paid by the first week of May I think. This would save you having to wait to get up on the wait list. Just pay me for my fees I already paid nothing extra. Next years you could fill out the forms and pay with your credit card.
