the motor is actually being built right now and i should be getting it back soon, its a 350 bored .60 over with a mild cam, i'm not sure on the lift and duration i forgot the specs in the box at the engine shop, but it is a mild cam probably gunna push around 400hp. 4:10 gears in a 10 bolt rear, th400 tranny. does the convertor size matter when i buy one, like a 10'' 11'' 12''? thanks dom

Typically the smaller the converter the higher the stall. I hade a custom built 9" thats a 3000 stall from neal chance, awesome conveter. Call them up and give them your specs and they can build you one. IMHO a custom build converter is the only way to go. Still no cam specs so I can't really give you an idea on what to use.

Typically the smaller the converter the higher the stall.

That's sort of true. It's 100% true of stock style converters--typically $400 or less. But with full on custom converters, it's possible to do a small diameter low stall unit. For example, we can build a 9.5" converter down to 2400 rpm stall. That would be ideal for a lightweight car with a mild engine package.

For this car, mild cam probably means a power band from 2000 rpm to 6000 rpm. With a 4.10 gear and typical A-body weight, I would go 10" 2800 rpm stall like this:

I once had a similar engine set up with the same driving goals and was very pleased with the TCI 11" Break away. The car was very drivable on the street. This converter would flash stall to 3500 RPM in a 3600 lb car with 430 hp, 3.42 gears.
