hey guys i have alot of updates!!! sorry i havent updated since i first started but alot has changed with my baby! i took as many pictures as i could and finally had some time to throw them up on here.

69projectKAOS

my baby is almost done! the body shop just had to wet sand it and finish buffing it and then replace the few pieces they took off for paint. i ended up going with a apple red instead of white or black. i also had the shop install a set of bullet mirrors because the stock ones just didn't cut it for me. the drip rails were also painted the same color as the car. it seemed like an eternity that the car has been gone but it actually took less than a year. i know that some guys on here have had there cars in the shop for longer than that but, i am very pleased with the work that the shop has done and i am extremely excited to get it back and install all the goodies that i have sitting in my room and parts yet to come. i aquired a set of 18" ROH international "Modena" 3 piece wheels 245 40r 18 off of a bmw m3 that i bought and i did a mock up of them on the car while it was being worked on and they fit and look great except i need a small spacer for the rear to clear the leaf and inner fender well. oh and they kid with the football shirt on in the engine compartment is me right after the pull. this project has gotten to this point with the help of my family and thanks to them there will be great times to come. thanks for looking , let me know what you think-dom

yeah i actually thought that it wouldnt look good but now seeing the contrast between the two colors and it on the car and it looks sweet! and when i get the windows tinted you wont even notice the trim there which makes it look more modern. i thought the chrome was kind of tacky and plus im going for the street fighter look :headbang: thanks for all the compliments guys, i will keep you posted

New updates!!!!!!
i went to the body shop and did a final mock up of my ROH Modenas. the fronts fit find but the backs rub the shock a little bit and they sit a little deep in the wheel well so i am going to order spacers tomorrow. but the shop let me work on the car and put a few goodies on yesterday. they said it should be done within a few days. so here are the pics, they are kind of teasers because i couldn't move the car out of the garage and get it in the light but hopefully i can soon.oh and the tires do need some air but i was to excited to do it before the pictures were taken. what do you think? it has definitely came a long way!!

WELL........... IVE GOT GOOD NEWS AND SOME BAD NEWS. the good news is that i got the car lowered and the stance was dead on.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/11/5149244565_ef21366ba5_b-1.jpg
and then........ well yeah u figure it out.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/11/5149275373_23f80e7450_b-1.jpg
i managed to get it jacked up and back on 3 studs without the spacer to get it on the tow truck. and then.......... i f@$$*d up my lip!!!!!.

my guess is that the studs i was supplied with by the man who i got the ls1 brake conversion kit from were sub par and couldnt take the stress. as i was driving i felt what seemed like a flat tire. i got out and checked, noticing nothing out of the ordinary i continued to proceed. i got about a block further when i felt uneasy, it felt like the car was pulling to that side. so i decided to try and limp the mile home at about 2mph almost just idling when bam! the car stopped dead and dipped off its axis, at this point i was infuriated thinking i had broken either a tierod, blew a tire, or uv joint. when i emerged from the camaro i was in shock. this is the end result below........

i guess the studs snapped and being concealed by the spacer i was unable to tell the cause of it. whats your thought and opinions. i plan on replacing both sides with new arp wheel studs. i really dont have the money for new rims that wont require spacers, what should i do?

Hey Dom- The car looks awesome with the new stance!
Sorry about your bad luck... get everything situated and get it back on the road! dont get discouraged, your car is way too cool to just let sit.....

I think what happened is the lugs (spacer to studs) worked themselves off (its common with aluminum wheels, in this case the spacer). Since you can't really check them to re-torque them every so often, they probably backed off and caused the snap from the loose nut. When i ran spacers i put a drop of blue loctite on each lug that held the spacer in place. Not sure if other guys would reccomend this but it worked for me... a few hundred miles and my wheels needed re-torqueing, but when i inspected the spacers the lugs were still tight.. and when i removed everything the blue loctite wasn't an issue.... hope this helps... You could always put an old set of rallys on it... i have some nice 15x7's and 15x8's i'd sell you cheap with brand new bfg's as a temporary fix.. they are already painted black...

good luck,

-Sean

11-05-2010, 03:42 PM
thanks sean, i have a set of the factory rallys with the chrome rings, but i don't think they will fit over my ls1 brake conversion because they are only 15 inch rims, and my rotors alone are 13inches without the calipers on them. this happened yesterday at like 5pm and i already have here at my house 2 new goodmark fenders that i scored off craigslist for $150 for the pair, they were never used. i only need the driver side but im going to save the passenger side. im dropping the new fender off tomorrow to be painted then im going to re-re-install it. but im so unsure on what to do with the wheel situation, because i cant have this happen again! im to the point where in scared to drive it because i made it into my dream car and i dont want to see it get destroyed, and the funny thing is i drive this thing like a old lady because i dont want to ruin it lol. i want my car to be a corner carver lol but i know it takes time lol -Dom

does anyone have a part # for arp wheel studs that will work for me?

sr73bu
11-05-2010, 04:00 PM
forgot about your brakes... yeah, they probably wont clear those rims... I cheaped out on rims (17x9 cragar) soft 8's (until i can afford a set of Fiske's)... they were $70 each... they are heavy but the offset was perfect for my car. You may be able to fit them or the 17x8 version.. not sure if its your style though... aleast they will clear the brakes and eliminate spacers...

The stance looks awesome. I hate that you had this setback. I have struggled with whether or not to run spacers. If I do, I will make sure that I have quality studs after seeing this. Good luck getting the car back on the road, will be killer with the wheels, stance, paint and GS stripes.

Man that really sucks! I can't believe how bad it mashed up that fender as well. These things happen I you just have to fix it and move on. I had a lower ball joint blow and it sat on the ground similar to that. When I first saw the picture, thats what I thought had happened. I hope you get it all fixed back up soon. Good luck!

thanks guys, i am having the new fender painted on Monday but im trying to figure out what size stud i need for the front to not make this happen again, im going with arp studs this time. the studs i got with the ls1 conversion kit were probably crap and made this happen because two sheered off. the big dilemma is that i really don't have the money right now to get new wheels, and in order for me to drive the car i need the spacers because when i turn the wheel they hit the sub frame when no spacer is on. what should i do?-dom

^^^ thanks vengeance, when i get the car all done again i will get you some high quality pictures for the street fighter website. it would be sick to get a picture of stormy and my car together causing havoc on the streets lol, it sucks we live so far away. -Dom

Sorry to hear this happened to your car. I lost a rear Cragar on my Z28 pulling a holeshot when I was a kid. It sheared all the studs off and crushed the rear quarter. They had a bad habbit of loosening up every once in a while. If you go with the spacers check them after a few miles and then every once in a while after to make sure they stay tight . Even the best studs will fail if they get loose.

yea they are only flat black vinyl, they cost me about $20 for both sides and they are 3.5" wide and 2feet long. but i trimmed a little off because they were long. the reason i went with the vinyl was because i could always remove them if i got sick of them and wouldn't have to repaint the whole fender.-Dom

Dom, Hold off on the Schroth harness... atleast with NASA as of April 1, 2011 NO 4 point harnesses will be allowed regardless of dot approval... Not sure if the event in NJ will be run by them, but a 3 point "factory style" seems the way to go according to the rules next year (in regards to the road coarse, for autocross a lap belt is sometimes acceptable, lol) ... now i'm confused on what to do!.... see the top of page 42...

nice camaro. what size are the wheels?

i was thinking i really like the all black wheels but i think if you do paint them, maybe you should try a matte or flat black finish or flat black center and gloss black lip. personally i think all gloss black doesnt do it for me unless the lips is polished or chrome. to me if you paint an entire wheel black it would be because you want the stealth look and flat black is stealth all day long.

all in all, the red and black contrast is among my favorites. look up the culture shock camaro, its a 67 not a 69 but either way there are some photos of it, red car with all black wheels. i think the centers were flat black with a gloss lip.

hey guys,
time for some updates. i recently decided that i was sick and tired of my old th350 setup so i went onto the almighty craigslist hahaa and started to look for a t56 swap. and the search was on, i ended up finding a complete swap from a guy in Rhode island. with the swap i got LT1 T56(56k miles), stock LT1 bellhousing, all the hydraulics, lt1 flywheel, pressure plate, New throwout, Brand New Hay's Hd clutch, fork , Hurst short throw shifter. I know i cant use the stock lt1 flywheel with my 2pc rear main seal so i have to call up Keisler tomorrow and see if they have something that will work for me. other than that from what i read the swap is pretty much bolt up and go. Once i get the flywheel i can get the trans in and measure my drive shaft to have it shortened. I also bought the DSE Clutch master cylinder bracket and a new stock clutch/brake pedal assembly. The pedals and DSE bracket will be in tomorrow so i will post up some more pics when i get it finished. -Dom

^^^ Mikea, where are you from on L.I,? and thanks but i think i figured it out, i found a company called street and performance online and they have the same bracket as DSE makes and they actually give you a drawing of how you need to mount the tab on the clutch pedal and everything, even down to how many degrees the tab has to be at! i also had to go get a new clutch master cylinder because the one i got with the swap was bent and had a leak so might as well go all new while it out and easy to get to. here's the pic i was referring too.

hey guys, so my hydraulics are done and mounted as well as my pedals. like many of you know i had to tweak the pedals a little to make it mate to the clutch master push rod. im not the best welder but im pretty sure it will hold lol. and the wires are out of the way now after i did the final install of the pedals and return spring etc. i used a adjustable pin so that the push rod could spin on it, i only used the second hole and cut the rest off so it wouldnt get in the way. the pedals look great and with that tab welded on the work great as well. im just waiting on my flywheel to mate my lt1 t56 to my early sbc.

WELL LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Tragedy has struck but the outcome will decimate all! haha to make a long story short. i installed my t56 and let me tell you it was a blast!! but my 383 didn`t quite agree. somehow about two months later i started my car in the driveway and let it idle when all of a sudden it went kaboom:drive2: so i turned it off to access the situation and nothing seemed out of the ordinary so i tried to crank it over which it did . it fired up, popped again then stalled. after that it seized and cracked the starter. sooo we yanked the motor to find the number 6 cylinder had cracked due to a nut in the combustion chamber. let me remind you that this is the same cylinder that has detonated 2 pistons already and forced me to have it rebuilt both times. so i gave up :crying: i contemplated selling it and getting something more modern but with some persuasion from my family and friends shes here to stay!
So that brings me to where i am now, i ditched the idea of a crate motor and i decided to go nuts. with having two brothers who have Supras and a brother who has vast knowledge of them inside and out i decided to go out on a limb and go 2JZ! :ssst: My brother had a spare 2jz laying around with 65k miles on it so we tore it down and started to build her for some boost!

heres the block torn down

wrinkle finished valve covers and lower intake manifold runners
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/01/6440219773_ef64a29539_z-1.jpg

i was able to get the head studs in the block today with some help of my gf:bigthumb: , i also pulled the harmonic balancer and got the water pump and timing belt off. unfortunately i got the wrong water pump(idk how lol) so i had to get the right one, and stop at the dealer to get the head gasket so i can start to put her back together.
got the ARP head studs in
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/01/6450781087_a72c91e905-1.jpg

got the headgasket, timing belt, new water pump, and head back on
we made some progress. i was able to get the new water pump, tt headgasket and most of the gaskets for the motor. my brother was nice enough to go ahead and torque down my head for me. we installed the cams

installed the valve covers and manifold

GARRETT 67mm turbo installed with dizzy, its practically touching the dizzy and valve cover so i cant even run a filter, oh well looks like im deff going AEM standalone ecu (there will be some sort of filter on there no worries lol)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/01/6499988473_d90e4790f5-1.jpg

i didnt like the way the n/a coil cover didnt cover the spark plug gulley completely so i cut out a piece to cover it out of thin sheet metal i had .
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/01/6511132075_3c6daf35d6_z-1.jpg
then i sprayed it to match the body color of my car , it actually came out nice. im trying to keep things lean and hidden for my build as much as possible. i also just put my lower runners on to see how they looked with the n/a rail with tapped fittings. im going to be ordering the intake stock in a few days to finish that up as well.

Hahahaaa i was kind of reluctant to post it on here because i really didnt want neg feedback on it but oh well, lol im not going to hack the car up at all. im going to keep it so that i can go back to a sbc at any time. im actually running a R154 which is like the toyota version of the t56. its a 5 speed trans and can handle up to 750hp range, some guys even push more hp than that. im hoping to be done before the summer, so we can meet up at a autox or something. i saw your build thread and the car looks great, i love the color! i bet you love that t56 lol

Now that is definitely different! Are you going to rebuild the 383 again?

Thanks, i have the 383 sitting in my garage all dis-assembled, i dont know what im going to do with it. i will probably keep it because it the original motor to the car. I think the damage is too extensive .-Dom

Thanks! yea i like the EVS camaro alott, the funny thing is i had my car set up almost identical to theirs without even knowing of it lol until my brother saw it on the web and thought it was my car lmao. EVS say they are making close to a 1000hp but i dont think thats right. i think they are making close to 600 +hp. for my car im gunna shoot for 650-700hp,....will that stick to the ground !? oh hell nooo but it sure will be fun to drive! hahaha

Hey Veng, can i still be in the club?? ;) My car is gunna be American muscle , but with the heart of Japan. i kinda thought you would agree with me because you like American muscle and jdm. -Dom

HAHAAA THANKS!!! I contemplated many times on how i wanted it to look and im happy for now lol, but she is always changing and will definitely be different soon ;) . my brothers supra is a bit of a beast even though he is in the process of building it now as well.....soooo he will probably beat me but thats all good in my book though. i just want something that will shock people and be balls fast and also reliable to boot lol. My brothers joke and say that the only things on the car that are going to break now are the chevy parts!!:lmao: i hope nothing breaks loose but the tires, haha but we will see. thanks-Dom

Random question - might be a quick google away as well but - do you know what the backspacing and width of the original Camaro steelies are?

Hello... I don't know how I missed this Killer Build....But i did.

Nice Job on your car...Paint, stance, wheels, ect....

And The engine, well.....It was time to put in one of those new motors and tranny's that everyone talks about..

It should be interesting to see what you think.

I am still running the 350LT-1 and 4 Speed and I have modified the rest of the car..except the interior.

I will be following to see how it goes, and how you feel about the difference..

got some more stuff finished up, got the motor mounts fabbed up and radiator mounts done as well, i was able to sump the tank and i also wrinkle finished the intake manifold. i also removed the a/c suitcase on the fire wall by the turbo so i have more room and made a plate to cover it all up. heres a few cell phone pics ill get the ones off the camera soon. I'm just waiting on a 1jz bell housing and clutch setup and she can be rolling sometime in the near future hopefully!!! thanks for looking -Dom

Only doing a single turbo? I demand a dynosheet once she's running!

Just out of curiousity, are you keeping the T56, or selling it? I'm still looking for one. :)

ohh you guys will deff see a dyne sheet and videos one she's done!!! thats a promise. yea i decided to go with a single setup its a 67mm garrett with a 37mm dial waste gate, 850cc injectors, 105mm throttle body, tito racing intake (wrinkle finished ) , r154 5-speed transmission(toyota) and 3.73 gears out back. i gotta get some new wheels probably in a 16'' or 17'' so i can run a wide radial, because this little baby is gonna be all over the place! hahaaa i actually sold the t56 a while back to some local guys on craigslist:/

Now that's something I don't see every day. Any pictures of how you fab'ed up the motor mounts?

yea its definitely something i wanted to build as well because i know that EVS motorsports has the 67 camaro with a 2jz in it but as far as i know i have the only 69 camaro with one. i actually have some on my camera that i will upload, it was actually surprisingly easy. i used the original sbc350 mounts that attached to the frame and then welded a inch and a half thick plates to the top of them and re-enforced them and then drilled a hole throughout those and used the existing mounts from the 2jz motor and bolted then together!!! and i made sure i had my angles all lined up spot on. thanks for looking guys i will keep the pictures coming! -Dom

With out being to much in your business, about how much do you have in this install? Pic of the engine mounts? I have a 69 and really want to follow your lead!

69projectKAOS
11-16-2012, 03:52 PM
I got alot of my parts from my brothers supra when he built his supra. I had to buy a new clutch setup, transmisision, fuel system, intercooler ,gauges, turbo, manifold ,custom intake, injectors, and there was a bunch of custom modidifying the trans crossmember , intercooler piping, radiator support brackets, and motor mounts. The motor mounts are the original sbc bottom half's that bolt to the frame and then i welded 2" thick pieces of metal to extend them to meet up with the stock 2jz motor mounts and bolted them up. It wasnt too hard , just getting the pitch right was a pain in the ass. Ill try and get pics. -Dom

900+HP without even taking the head off.

Gotta love that. haha.
It's lighter than a Supra too isn't it?
If not - then not much heavier.

Would LOVE to see the look on people's faces when you say "No V8" - pop the hood and there stands a Toyota Motor in all it's glory and all the hillbillies will retort with "THE F&%$ IS THAT S%#&?"
