:lurk:I am currently restoring my 68 Firebird's front end suspension and I have a question about drop spindles. I have been told that when installed they will cause a tie rod to rim clearance issue with most diameter rims. Are there any new generation drop spindle manufactured that remedy this issue, or is it still ongoing. Should I just purchase lowering springs and a good pair of shocks? Will this create the same lowering effect? If so, what brand lowering springs and shocks are recommended? Oh, I almost forgot, I am looking to add 17 in rims in front, don't know how wide though...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Do a lot of searching and reading in the Suspension forum and you'll be better prepared with all you need to know about the choices you have for your 68 Bird

I have Fatman 2" drop spindles on the front of my 67 Camaro with about an 1/8" clearance between steering arm and tire. Front wheel size is 17 x 7, 3.75 BS. Tire is 225/ 50. IMO if you are going to change spindles I would focus on building a front suspension that will change the poor camber curve inherent to these vehicles. I will be changing my front set-up in about a month in order to improve handling.

on our test car with stock spindles and our hi clearance arms ( and the subframe ) and the rim is even with the fender lip we have a 19 x 10 with 285's these would not fit with drop spindles. not bragging just letting you know what is possible
