Getting ready to paint my '69 GTO and I am pondering getting rid of the vents near the rear of the hood up by the windshield for a cleaner look. I saw that Foose did this on a '69 LeMans on Overhaulin'.

My car is a factory A/C car and it lives in Florida so I don't want to compromise the functionality however if by switching the A/C to "MAX" closes a damper to the outside air and simply recirculates the cabin air I should be fine. Did they have this feature back in '69?

I understand that the Firebirds after 1976 got rid of these vents as well.

Anything else to be concerned about by doing this?

I have an Olds A-body, and it does not use the vents in the hood, bit instead simply breathes through the opening between the hood and windshield where the wipers park. Later 2nd gen F-bodies did the same, so there should be no problem with your closing off the vents in the hood assuming your Pontiac has the same set-up as my 442.

Shiny Side Up!

Thanks for the reply Bill. I think I'll smooth out the hood for a cleaner look then.
