Hi :hw:. I live in so cal I've worked on a-bodies a lot but I grew up in a Ford town and I like all makes and models from a Panhard to a Nomad ( more on that later).
My latest ride is a '70 442. I went to a pals house to l;ook at a 72 cutlass convertible. He just got a '67 GTO ragtop 4spd and needed a parking space and he told me I could have the 442 I've been trying to get for 20 years ...
Sitting for 20 years and I drove it home. The original engine has 180 lbs/cyl and get 12mpg. not to bad for a big block. It will do a 15 sec 1/4 mile. Even though it's not the fastest car at the strip, everyone wants to race it.
I like this 442 'cause ;
not a w-30, right color with a "custom" color paint code, nice rear end ( posi w/3.23 gear) geared just right for an 1/8th mile, the right options (tilt, tac, gauges, am/fm, buckets, glass hood, pw.
I drove "Chuckles" (makes a chuckle sound at idle and I chuckle everytime I fire her up) 15,000 miles last year and I think this helped inwinning a trophy at the Don Barris car show as I drve through Culver City 3/4 times a day ...
I've tried to network with other 442 owners but I haven't seen on since I got her...
I replaced the seats which sucked ( heavy with ni lateral support), I put in a slap shifter which is an under cover ratchet shifter. You can tell 'cause this hifter rod hole is oval (to accept the slap), springs and shocks, mainly everything not bolted down and a few of those ...
It's a real attention whore car . I have to remind myself to thank people for compliments...
I have my own "race" course-- La Brea at Coliseum south It's a long uphill to the oilfields and some twisties ...
I'm thinking of a trailer hitch to box the rear end plus I use it for work and towing ...
Oh, yeh, as soon as I go through the engine I will want to drive(race) this car and the drag racing scene in so cal sucks ...
